Default Let's Talk Turbos! ****EDIT: NOW WITH PICS!!!***

So I think the time has come that we throw our hat into the ring. After the great success of our C5, C6, and Z06 (among many more) Twin Turbo Systems, it's time we tackle the C7!

But I would like to get some feedback from all of you! Who all would be interested in a twin turbo system? I'm thinking something top-mount with beautiful SS tubular manifolds similar to our C6 Z06 kit.

Possibly a kit where absolutely nothing was cut, ground, hacked, or otherwise permanently modified, save for maybe a hole in the oil pan for the oil return. Leaving the option for the customer to return their vehicle back 100% to stock.

And of course keeping with our good nature, something affordable! Quite honestly $30K+ kits are just a bit too rich for my blood. And competing against companies like ECS and A&A who are already affordable (kudos), I just don't see a market in overcharging. So maybe with a goal (not a promise) of say under $10K, depending on what all goes into it.

So what do you guys think? Something you would go for?

And just to help narrow us down the right path, a few more specific questions:

1. What would your power goals be? (now or in the future)

2. What kind of turbo sizing would you want, T3/T4, T4, both? And Why?

3. If ceramic coating was not a necessity, would you still go for it as an option?

4. With the limited C7 tuning available at this point, would you prefer a CAN tune? Especially one tested/tuned at multiple altitudes?

5. Standard Raceport BOV, or something louder?

6. 2.5" Downpipe or 3"? If 3" would you be willing to upgrade the rest of the exhaust (I believe only axle back on the C7's) to a full 3" as not to create a bottle neck?

7. Anything else you would like to see optional? Recommendations? Things that others (or us on other kits) have left out on other kits that you really want to see?

Thanks in advance for your input guys. Hopefully together we can build an amazing kit with amazing results and an amazing price...

900whp would be a good power goal. Since it's a turbo setup, it should be more than a typical SC.

I'm thinking GT3076R turbos, and also have just the piping only with T3 or T4 flange so we can use our own turbos if we want. I would also prefer a water cooled turbo.

Ceramic coating is not a necessity, but it would be a nice option.

I'm thinking by the time you've went this far, a standalone ems maybe? I'm not sure if I would prefer a standalone or not.

standard bov.

3" downpipes.

I guess you would also need a FMIC.

Buy a kit that most would want.

IMO smaller turbo's to get to ~600-650 rwhp. Everyone talks about 900-1000 hp and 4 people do it.

I'd prefer OEM like drivability meaning smaller turbo's where lag is reduced/eliminated.

I would think the market, if your competing against the SC costs would be to use tires as your design point. Once you have to move to a tire where driving in the wet is a near death experience due to power level your eliminating most of the market.

With how durable these engines are proving to be and how easy it is to make power, I think this is silly.

The kit needs to have the ability to support 1000whp out of the box and I don't think its to tall of a order... Reducing turbo lag is simply a game of choosing the correct turbos for the application and not just grabbing one off the shelf..

Something like this would be nice in my opinion...

http://www.precisionturbo.net/Street...2-CEA-reg-/245

That turbo wouldn't lag much and would scream with the right A/R.

Give people room to grow. Way to many of us have had to purchase upgrade after upgrade after upgrade over the years because at one point we thought 600-700 was enough... Then you hit 1000 and you are still bored with it...

950-1000whp capable or bust!

The benefit of a turbo is more power, and more efficiency.

If you only want 600whp and OEM driveability, a SC is what you need. Turbos are for a different group of people.

I'm not so sure you have to have incredibly high HP to justify a TT setup over a SC. Majority of our customers I would say are in the 600-700whp range. There are many other benefits to, better mid-range, broader power band, better fuel economy, etc.

We're tossing ideas around about different turbo sizing, smaller spools faster, however with the harmonics of the C7 fuel pump this may not be the best option. Ideally if we had options big/small so each could choose based off their individual needs, I would think that would be best? Then we would just have to design a kit with complete interchangeability.

I would also like to see a setup for the 600-650 rwhp range that would compete with the SC kits. Would much prefer a kit that my shop of choice could tune.

A lot of us going withe a SC kit are adding headers so you are looking at $7-8k or so plus labor.

at the very least, i would like to see an option to select bigger turbo's that would support 1000rwhp+ for us folks that are bored with 700-800rwhp...

And also an option for louder BOV's as well

So pretty much a stage 1 option for the guys who are ok with 600-750rwhp and a stage 2 option for the guys who are looking for 1000rwhp+

One of our customers was just inquiring about a louder BOV, and we do have access to the Big Bubba, which I think I'm going to start testing and run on my personal vehicle.

1. What would your power goals be? (now or in the future)

600whp out of the box, no upgrades, bolt on/tune and go. should have the ability to bolt on larger turbos and make 900whp.

2. What kind of turbo sizing would you want, T3/T4, T4, both? And Why?

V-Band!

3. If ceramic coating was not a necessity, would you still go for it as an option?

ceramic coating should be standard on all hot parts.

4. With the limited C7 tuning available at this point, would you prefer a CAN tune? Especially one tested/tuned at multiple altitudes?

I'd say no.

5. Standard Raceport BOV, or something louder?

no preference

6. 2.5" Downpipe or 3"? If 3" would you be willing to upgrade the rest of the exhaust (I believe only axle back on the C7's) to a full 3" as not to create a bottle neck?

if you can still make 900hp with the 2.5.

7. Anything else you would like to see optional? Recommendations? Things that others (or us on other kits) have left out on other kits that you really want to see?

For the Corvette community, it comes down to fitment. It needs to look as if it came from the factory that way. It also needs clear directions and shouldn't require a mech engineering degree to install.
hi-flow inter-cooler. my c6 intercooler looked like a cardboard box, right angles don't flow very well.

my 2 cents.

Do consider the balance of the car - how much more weight are you adding to the nose of the car? This will affect the overall performance of the car. This won't matter to those of you just for more straightline power but I believe many of us don't want to lose any of the excellent braking and cornering this car has. I also believe how we drive most of the time matters more than you think relative to the 5% or less when you're on the throttle all the way. Throttle response and overall rpm band performance matter more than top end. I like turbo more than supercharging because it is more efficient in adding gobs of power.

Thank you Carl, exactly what I was looking for!

And I agree on the intercooler part. We redesigned that one to have cast end tanks now to fit in with the rest of our lineup.

The first rule is to build what someone will buy,

A properly sized turbo to deliver that lower power range will give enjoyable power delivery and be fun to drive.

Lots of people will harp about 1000rwhp and 3 people will build one. That is not going to pay for their development.

Yes and no. When we originall developed the C5 and C6 we made it with one turbo available. But found many people wanted more. So with the redesign and all the later kits we made an upgraded turbo readily available, and completely interchangeable without redesigning any major components. Lately we've been getting requests for even MORE! So im thinking we develop with big in mind, then back track to smaller, again completely interchangeable.

I would love to start with our 5871 turbos, as a bolt on 600-700whp they're incredible with great low end spool (2800-3200 for full spool). However it has been broight to my attention that tge C7s have a harmonic problem in the fuel pump ~4000-4500 which it starves for fuel. Spooling before then may proce to be problematic. I know some have worked around the issue by limiting the throttle, but im not sure the driveability woukd work so well with a turbo setup. We are planning to do some testing with different setups though.

We've been hard at work here and will be posting pics soon!

For those that say buy a SC and get OEM Drivability don't need a turbo.

Every type of engine drives differently and each type has its own merits. It is not all about a number.

I would prefer in order:

Turbo
PD Blower
Centri Blower

I like the way a turbo charge car drives, owned several of them including a 700hp TT setup on an LS1.

I love the PD setup in my S4, but its AWD and under 400hp so its great fun to drive. Would I want a PD blower in a C7 blowing off the tires at 2000rpm due to all the torque, probably not.

I'm going with a Centri because of the above concern with a PD blower, the intercooler issues with back to back performance, and cost vs performance compared to a centri.

I'd love to get a turbo setup but the current pricing is pretty high and when I add in the price of the C7 plus a good turbo setup I'd be looking at other cars.

I have a ProCharger kit in my C7 and would pull it and install a TT kit if it was reasonably priced. I love the sound of TT's.

Keep us posted! If you were closer I'd let you use my car.

What about the STS TT kit?? It's down around 10k and it looks great with the turbos tucked behind the rear wheels..

Is there anyone on this site that has it on their C7???
