Anyone ever seen their car read oil pressure and all the sudden the thing just goes to zero? Checked it with a mechanical gauge and it has pressure ALWAYS. Turn the car off for a bit and it reads pressure again then after about the same amount of time it goes to zero.
Thinking it has to be a tune thing cause it's too repeatable and predictable.
These cars don't have a lot of oil pressure PSI anyways--On a LS engine it was common to see 50-70 PSI at WOT---However my C7 never goes over 45 PSI at WOT----I was concerned at 1st--but talking to a GM tech--he told me that the LT1 has gone from a high pressure system to a high volume system---So even if the PSI is lower the volume of oil is greater---My car after getting hot will go down to almost "0" The LS engines had a low oil warning system if the PSI dropped below 15 at idle and 40 at WOT---However the LT1 has NO low oil pressure warning system --what this means one can only speculate that it doesn't matter ???
Well it's a little different that reading low. It flat out goes to zero and throws a check engine light for low oil pressure.
Will see if replacing the oil pressure switch helps.
I just did a blower and headers so I'm hoping its just something in the tune.

As I stated in the original post, after I did a blower and headers all of the sudden the car stopped reading oil pressure. What was weird though is after sitting over night I could start it and it would read pressure then it would go to zero on the dash and throw a CEL. It was very reproducible.
So first and foremost I wanted to verify we had oil pressure mechanically or we had another slew of issues. So we did and it did have oil pressure ALWAYS thank god.
Step two was this little guy. This is the oil pressure switch located just under the intake manifold back behind the throttle body. Replaced it and oil pressure is reading exactly like it should now. $35 part on a 1600 mile car. Not complaining cause it's fixed, was just a very bizarre situation that I wanted to share.
Glad you got it fixed w/o too much difficulty. Even if I had a mechanical gage to check the electronics, I wouldn’t be a happy camper until the instrument panel showed a proper reading. Don

Thanks.
I was more worried about having a spun bearing or something with the way the pressure just went to nothing. Or worse that the oil pump was having issues. Basically I wanted to know that the engine physically had oil pressure, then turn the attention to how that pressure gets to the dash Hints replacing that little pisshead pressure switch.
