Transmission Fluid change after Tracking - HELP
I wanted to get the opinions of some of the very knowledgeable members we have on here because they sure seem to know much more than the service clowns GM has.
I took my 15 A8 non Z51, all stock, to a track event yesterday. As with many owners, I ran into the transmission over heating issue after tracking the car for probably 40 mins over 8 hours. I got the warning DIC message informing me that transmission fluid is hot, idle engine. I got off the track and let the car cool down and did not track after that. My question to y'all is do I now need to change my transmission fluid? The transmission fluid temp was at almost 290. I was told that if the fluid gets that hot then i should change the fluid to avoid longer term issues with my transmission. Is that true? What about brake fluid, should I change that too since I tracked the car?
The transmission fluid change alone is going to cost around $700 from the dealer so I wanted to get your feedback before I did that. I plan on buying the fluid from gmpartsdirect and having the dealer change if that is what y'all advise.
Thanks
Also, how long was the session when the transmission overheated? I believe the base model doesn't have transmission or differential cooler. If this is true, you might look into adding cooler for future track events.
I thought about the cooler but I am wondering if it would affect the warranty. I asked the service adviser if I could replace the transmission fluid with a high end aftermarket racing transmission fluid, but he said that would void my warranty.
