Default Engine air filter access isn't easy

It appears to me the Corvette engineers installed the engine air filter then proceeded to assemble the rest of the engine around it. What a PITA to have to go through so much just to install a new filter (K&N). My hands are bloodied and my patience worn out. This used to be such a very simple task, not the case on a C7 IMO.

It helps to close the hood almost all the way, the passenger strut gets in the way of the factory airbox. Doing this allows it to come out VERY EASY.

This may be helpful but still way too much to have to do for what should be a very simple task.

Wait until you have to change a light bulb.

Don't really understand T/A Kids statment, seems it would not leave room to work.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one that thought that, the first time I went to remove the airbox. Not that its "hard" but it was a little annoying.

Some car these days, make it nearly impossible to change the light bulb, without removing the headlamp itself. Really trying to get people to bring them into the dealership I guess.

Nothing like a $500-$1000 bulb/ballast change on the C7 (a domestic of all things).

At least with Ferrari the bulb is stamped with the logo, so you know why it's hard to sit down.

Not sure why the originator of this thread had so much trouble getting to the air filter. While it is a little more complicated than uscrewing the wing nut on top of the old 'pot style' air filters of the pre-80s era, a screw driver and nut driver did the job on my C7 quickly, with no skinned knuckles. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being most difficult), I would rate the air filter change a '2'.
