Default A8 Z51-first time at drag

Gonne be headed to fast lane friday later at Homestead later to see if I can beat my friends c63 in a more controlled environment

so far from what ive read im probably gonna be using launch mode on race and hoping for the best but was wondering if anyone had any tips like best rpms to shift at and such :p usually from all the pdr videos ive see it looks like 6300 is the way to go. Also im trying to avoid doing a burnout but my friends tires are really worn out so that wont be that much of a problem.
~3400 miles bone stock so far unless you consider the z06 grill a mod and this is my first time drag racing on a strip ever so im expecting a really bad r/t

Others will need to chime in, but from the playing around I've done the A8 shifts perfectly on its own in track mode. I'm no pro by any stretch of the word, but I can't do any better than the AI inside my machine (and I've tried quite a bit)...but that's perfectly fine with me. The performance with this new transmission was the reason I bought the auto instead of the manual. I gave up trying to outperform my car for now and just drive around with a big smile on my face. Sometimes my cheeks hurt from smiling so big.

Don't shift, let the computer shift for you. None of us can outshift the computer.

100%.

But I got hung up, and confused by your comment about your buddy's tires being worn out. Worn tires are like drag slicks: no tread squirm. I hope you are not under the impression that tread on your tires is of any value on a dry road. If you are, don't feel bad. A survey I read about, many years ago, showed that something like 60% of police officers surveyed were of that opinion.

Dry roads = worn tires good. (Unless you have cords showing)
Wet roads = worn tires bad.

Warm up your tires before the race to get good grip. Put in track mode, don't shift yourself unless you have had a lot of practice. Also i wouldn't use launch control. Usually its pretty easy to outperform launch control, depending on how much experience you have. You shouldn't have a problem beating a C63. What year C63 is it?

just woke up since i passed out after i got home last night so far i got the best time without reaction time against my friends 2 c63s 2012 and a m235i that was modded.
first time i went alone was the fastest time i got no launch control just revving and letting go of break at green.
r/t 0.785
60ft 2.263
speed 68.3
330 ft 5.676
speed 90.76
elapsed time 8.379

with launch control on either sport or race cant really remember the wheel spin was way more than without and the launch was much slower this was the 1st time vs the c63
r/t 0.754
60ft 2.442
speed 67.34
330 ft 5.933
speed 90.83
elapsed time 8.653

c63
r/t 0.169
60ft 2.256
speed -
330 ft -
speed 88.61
elapsed time 8.516

lost by 0.728 which was mostly my reaction time but thats alright since this was my first time

3rd time
vs c63
no launch control
r/t 0.618
60ft 2.333
speed 68.34
330 ft 5.733
speed 91.31
elapsed time 8.438

him
r/t 0.178
60ft 2.223
speed -
330 ft -
speed 89.03
elapsed time 8.459
again lost by like 0.419 but that was reaction time

Learned to have a new appreciation to the car as the launch was amazing and the timing was even better than some of the modded mustangs and camaros which really surprised me may be going to pbir since its alot better than homestead, has more cars + much more lanes and rolling races too. hopefully by then il get my reaction time up.

still got the fastest time between my friends so thats all that matters to me only flaw with the car was the guy sitting in the seat

There is a different way of saying this.

...Dry roads = SHAVED tires are good.

WORN tires introduce some variables. If your tires are worn because of age, they are likely less effective even in the dry than full threads. Simply because of age the chemicals that keep a tire compound soft, had evaporated, burned up by the many, many heat cycles. Now the tire compound is hard and has little stick.

Also, if your tires are NOT old but, had many burnouts (thus worn), same principle applies. In most cases for most people, when you wear out a set of tires and mount a new set with full thread, suddenly both ride and handling improves a great deal because of the above factors.

Racers in street-tired classes regularly shave new tires to the allowed minimum thread depth for max. performance.

Don't worry about your reaction time, it has no effect on your et.
Don't forget to shallow stage (pull up slowly and just tickle the 2nd stage light and stop). Max rollout is worth 2 tenths
Concentrate on a the hardest launch without spinning.
