Default ZO6 Seat question

Looking at possibly ordering A ZO6. I will track the car in HPDE events - prpbably 5-6 times a year. I will probably put a harness bar and 5 point harness in. I know the competition seats have the opening for the harness. Will a harness work and be considered legal for HPDE if I have the GT seats and not the competition. I prefer the GT seats but also want to have harness for HPDE.

No, GT seats will not work with shoulder harness. The shoulder harness will possibly slide off your shoulders with the GT seats. The
comp seat pass thru keep the harnesses where they are most effective.

I can't 100% confirm this in the flesh, as I'm still waiting on my bar, but two different bar manufacturers have confirmed that the belts will work with the GT seats.

Obviously, the comp seats place the belts in the correct position, and do so much more stylishly, but it does appear that the GT seats will still work with a 4/5/6-point setup.

This is the only reason I've not converted my seats over to Comp as of yet.

Default HArness Bar

rob03ZO6, responded to me in a PM that he has the GT seats and the harness fits through the slot in the back of the seat. He has a picture on the forum of the set up.

Make sure the belts come through the pass through in a direct line from the bar to the top of your shoulders. The seat should not deflect the belt at all. If it deflects the belt you have extended the belt travel and made the seat part of the shoulder restraints. If there is an incident the belt will pull straight breaking the seat in the process and let your body move forward even more.

Don't do a 5 point. 6 point belts are the minimum setup now a days. Do not run the sub straps over the front of the seat since they are pulling in the wrong direction and the seat cushion gives too much. You need to pass them down through the seat in a direct line from the shoulder belts (they keep the shoulder belts from pulling the lap belt up) or pass them under your body (sit on them) and fasten them to a bracket behind the seat.

You may find a pull up lap belts will work better in a Vette since there isn't any room to pull down the belt next to the tunnel and not a lot more room to pull the one down by the door unless the door is open and you pull them down to the ground. You want the belts tight as hell when on the track. Nothing like what you would do on the street.

Not to mention that the 6-points are far less painful.

There is an excellent anti-sub bar assembly that uses the rear bolts, but is sold by a non-forum-vendor, so I can't put it here.
