Default Hatchback Opening

Hi, I just bought a new 2014 C7 Stingray with a hatchback and asked this question in the general discussion threads earlier....

When I pop the hood on either my 2000 convertible or the new coupe, I lift it a few inches and the struts take over lifting it all the way up. When I pop the hatchback on the new car, it opens about an inch, enough to get my fingers under then I have to lift it pretty much all the way up where the struts will then hold it but they don't seem to assist much? Is this normal or are the struts weak (only 500 miles on the car - new off lot??) and did GM make an "automatic" opening / electronic opening for the hatchback? Thanks guys!

I had the same thing happen in my 2006 C6. It's most likely one of the gas filled struts is defective. Take it to your dealer and they'll replace them.

I think that’s normal. With my 2014, you do have to lift the hatch yourself after it pops up. Not a big deal to me. Don

Also, if you want an easy shut.. Open the driver door first, or have the window rolled down.. I find it's damn near impossible to shut it without some sort of WWE body-slam if there is nothing to vent 'cabin pressure'.
