Default How to remove mirror housing from support arm.

I am trying to replace my blade silver mirrors with black ones and there has to be a way of removing the mirror from the support arm so that I can remove the internals and put in the new mirror housing and re install. I've looked in the search and YouTube with now luck.

You would think someone has changed out their mirrors.

you likely need to take the mirrors off the door from the inside first. I can check the manual when I get home later tonight

Thanks, but someone said there was a way to remove the mirror from the housing and then remove the housing from the support arm.

To be honest with you I totally forgot. I set myself a reminder to check it when I get home from work for you.

What is available in the ACDelco system on mirror removal has been posted previously in the DIY section.

For what you're looking to do, this parts explosion may help determine another way of doing this.

I had the local dealership print me the mirror schematic like the one in this post and explain how to remove the mirror from the housing which just pops out to reveal the actuator and internal support arm. After that it took me about 30 minute for the first mirror and 15 minutes for the passenger to change the mirror housing from silver to black. Thanks for the help guys. Hope this helps someone else out in the future.

Were you able to take any pictures while doing this? I'd be happy to add them to the mirror How-To to help others down the road.
