Default C7 convertible top problem

After I put the top up and tried closing the passenger side window, it would go all the way up and immediately go down like it hit an obstruction at the top. Only happened about 4 times in the first 5 months since last Dec 2014. Since it was intermittent I decided to investigate it myself.

As I lowered the top and stopped the movement I noticed the driver side pivot on the soft top next to the speaker area showed scrape marks (white residue at the hinge). The hinge was being obstructed by the trunk liner which was causing an interference with the hinge. Looked liked the trunk liner (the vertical bend in front of the flat floor section) was not clearing the hinge. Basically, I bent the liner forward to prevent it from interfering with the hinge assembly.

The hinge was bending the liner down which probably misaligned the sensor. Basically the sensor thought there was something in the way...which was the car's own liner.

I've had no problems for the last 2 months or so.

FYI for other C7 convertible owners.

Updated with attached pictures.

Floor liner was impinging on the hinge. (This picture is after I fixed the floor liner). Don't have a picture of the problem itself, the vertical part of the floor liner was bent almost completely to the floor liner's flat section.

Shows shavings of the floor liner plastic

I fixed by bending the floor liner to the vertical position and hooked to the speaker plastic enclosure

I can't visualize what you're describing at all. Any chance you could take a few pics? I'm also wondering how an issue on the driver side caused interference on the passenger side window.

I edited my comment for clarity, but I will take some pictures of the particular area in question once I get a chance.

Sorry for your problem, mine works flawless, yes the top slams down alittle but that's just the positive locking system. MyC6 had some issues but only after dealer did recall & update. Love these Rag Tops.

The liner sometimes gets pushed around when throwing groceries or luggage in the trunk. Had to push it back into place a couple times. Solid ever since.

Agree about these droptops. So much fun and you get to hear the exhaust in full surround

I would suggest you first try to reset the "window closed position reset" outlined in the owners manual. Apparently you have to reset it if the battery power is lost/disconnected.
I followed the procedure but the symptom appeared a few weeks later.
So, I started the car while I stood behind the door opening and used the key fob to lower the top down and intentionally stopped the procedure half way, about where my picture shows the floor liner and the hinge. If both sides of your floor liner is not bent, then it may be a different problem. But if it is like mine, problem easily fixed

Good Luck. Intermittent problems are a big pain.

Thanks for the pics. What you wrote makes sense now. I'll check out mine this weekend, although the window problem seems to be getting less and less frequent.
