Default First C7 set of Konis.

Koni finished making a set of prototype shocks for my C7 last week!
So far, I love them. Currently set at 1/2 turn from full soft. 2.5 turns total adjustment.
They are hoping to be in production in 6 months, from what I understand.
Will come painted in Koni yellow.

Just shocks not coilovers so far? Are they going to DA's as well?

Just standard replacement shocks. No word on coilovers.
These will be Koni Sports.
I also don't see coilovers on their site for C6.

Excellent news but what took so long? Ridetech told me at Carlisle that they would "soon" release a C7 shock. Of course I wonder how the Koni's will compare to the aFE Pfadt Johnny O'Connells in price, quality and real road performance. I guess the only way to really know is to buy them both. Yeah, right. Come to think of it, that would still probably be cheaper than a set of Penskes.

How accessible is the rear rebound adjustment? And how far off soft do you have the rears?

I realize this is an old thread, but I'm hoping you can help solve an issue with the Koni Sports I just purchased. The pin top shaft/threads don't fit into the oem mounts. I am waiting to hear back from Koni on what they expect me to do. Do you happen to remember if the installers needed to modify your oem top mounts? It looks as if drilling the sleeves out may work, but I'm concerned the heat will cause the sleeve to detach from the surrounding bushing.

Thanks for any help.

How hard is it to drill a 10mm hole to a 12mm hole in a shock mount? I mean really. It's pretty simple, and I'd call it bolt in....

Apparently it's fairly difficult for me, as I messed up one of the top mounts in the process. An update:

Koni responded and apologized for my boxes not containing the addendum leaflet. It explains the tops need to be drilled using a 12mm bit.

I overheated the sleeve and surrounding rubber on my first attempt. The sleeve spun out as the rubber/bond melted. I used an air drill, I think I went too fast and didn't use cutting oil. I bought one new top mount, used a variable speed drill, Irwin cobalt bit, and cutting oil. I got through all 4 in about 15 minutes. It all bolted on perfectly after that.

The Good:

The damping feels much improved. There's significantly less compression damping, so the ride is magic. The overall motion is almost over-damped, but makes for a very confidence-inspiring drive. I am anxious for the next autocross to see how well they work in that environment, and will report back.

The Bad:

The shock bodies are slightly longer. This makes for about 1/4"-3/8" less bump travel at the wheel at the point the shock body touches the bumpstop. Modifying the tops to install them make reverting an iffy proposition. The tops aren't available by themselves (that I could find). I haven't figured out how to adjust the rears without removing the shocks. Koni includes a special adjuster, I probably haven't tried hard enough. The C4 was in the same boat, I'm not terribly concerned about it.

Thanks for update. I've been wondering about the Koni's or the Johnny O'Connell's. I think this pushes me towards the JOC's. Glad to hear it worked out and that the damping is a good improvement.
