Default CEL after Borla 60547 install

I installed the x-pipe Wednesday evening. No issues with CEL's. This morning it idled hard during cold-start and then the check engine light came on. It has a half-tank of shell fuel.

This is a bit frustrating. Wonder if it will re-learn or if I'm going to have to tune it off.

Haven't been able to have it scanned yet. It just occurred on the way in to work this morning.

It was a P0420 which is a catalyst efficiency low-bank 1

My C6Z threw the same code and went away a few days later. IDK.

Did you knock one of the cats or O2 sensors/wires/plugs?

No I didn't touch them, I did it when the car was still hot so that area was not really touched.

I called Borla, they said it will throw codes unless they are tuned out. I thought this pipe was a No CEL install part because it just got rid of the pre cats

This is absolutely incorrect, they WILL NOT throw codes and I apologize that someone here misinformed you. If possible, please send me an email to davidb@borla.com or call me on the direct line to my office at 805.246.6067 so I can figure out why you were given the wrong information and help you resolve things to your satisfaction. My apologies once again.

Most importantly I need to be clear that these parts will not throw a check engine light.

For those of you that may have problems, any problems whatsoever, with Borla products please contact me directly as well.

Check all your fasteners...I had a CEL and it turned out to be a small exhaust leak resulting from fastened that had not been tightened sufficiently.

I sent you an email, looks like you might be out of the country until the end of the month. I had the light turned off and my CEL came back on. I had to take it to a tuner the next day. I didnt see this post until now. Hopefully we can figure out what happened. The install is free of leaks.

You don't need tune for x-pipe. I have the same x-pipe for 5 months now with no issues. Its possible that something jerked the o2 sensor wires during the installation. Just take it to the dealer. It could be O2 sensor warrenty issue as well.

I mentioned something similar in my post #5 above.

Yeah I had it checked out after the install. I had the code turned off twice and it continued to come on. Catalyst efficiency code left bank. It wasn't a jerked wire.

Hopefully David will email me back once he is in the country again. Like I said I called Borla tech support in California and was told I would need to take it to a tuner to have the code tuned out. I went to my tuner and he turned the light off and had to wait for an update from HP Tuners. So I drove a few more days and the light came back on. Had it cleared and it came on again. I then rechecked my install, pulled the plate underneath, rechecked all 4 connections sites and still had the issue. Finally had the code tuned out. Complete PITA.

You should have taken it to the dealer to check the code and fix it under warranty since as you said it wasn't caused by installation. You do not need tune for this x-pipe. Myself and few others I know have the same x-pipe with no issues.
Last month I had CEL. The dealer cleared it twice and it came back. Then they changed the O2 sensor heater/ wire and the problem was solved. Fixed under warrenty.
At least now you can enjoy the sound of the x-pipe. It does add a nice bark.

There should be no code if installed properly.

That's good advice, but who knows if the dealer will replace it? They can just pull the excuse that the installation caused the code to pop up. As far as I know, there aren't many mod friendly dealers out there.

Will these cars throw a cel without the valves at the exhaust pipes?

AFM valves yes, NPP valves no. Both are in the "exhaust pipes". The AFM (V4 valves) are in all Stingrays forward of the mufflers, but not Z06 after December 2014. The NPP valves are in the two outer exhaust tips in the performance exhaust (optional on all 2014 Stingray, standard on 2015 Z51 and Z06).
