About 7 weeks ago I traded in my 2011 Camaro SS for a used 2014 base C7 for a great price with 20,000 miles on it in mint shape. The only thing that bothered me was when it was cold and on the initial clutch engagement it felt like it had clutch chatter? Once it warmed up and disappeared.
Then in the meantime I have been stockpiling carbon fiber goodies, wheels and tires, exhaust and even on the edge to order my A & A supercharger for it. One of my hobbies has been building factory five cars and I presently own my 16th build, my 818R track/ borderline street car with 6 of my cars appearing at SEMA including winning best in show in 2007 with my GTM (the first of 4 being unveiled at SEMA) Wintertime I spend my nights and weekends in my shop building cars and this year I have all these boxes on boxes of stuff waiting to go on my newest toy.
so while at SEMA I dropped my Vette off at the local dealer to install my new steering wheel and to check out the clutch issue. Upon returning the wheel is awesome but even though they experienced the issue they had no answers.
Well this weekend I figured before I tear into this thing and possibly void my warranty by installing a blower this winter I better call the dealership I bought it from which they were extremely nice and even over the phone they said that that can't be right.
Well after dropping it off this past Sunday they called me yesterday and gave me the bad news. Internal thrust bearing must be bad and they are pulling the motor. They also said chances are once taken apart, they will probably be replacing the motor.
What scares me now is if they just try to fix it, I definitely can't add the blower this winter because we all know they will blame the SC for the damage and I am even scared of putting it on "New" motor.
What do you guys think? Is this a common issue with 2014's?
Thank god it's under warranty.

Although this doesn't help you it may help others who buy used. ALWAYS spend the money to get a prepurchase inspection from a reputable dealer. Money well spent

Reason: No need to requote the OP, especially when you're the next person posting.

The thing is I knew it was still under warranty, and at least its getting fixed without cost and its during time the car would be being stored.
Plus if my wife knew what I have spent already on goodies for it,for financial reasons she would probably leave me for a crack addict to save money.

My car had 1,000 miles on it when the super charger went on, it sounds like your going to hose the warranty anyways so what's the big deal? Put a manic clutch and call it a day

Just sounds like the car coming apart twice when it only has too once
You don't have to pull the motor out in order to install a supercharger. I'm gonna let the dealership do the R&R and forget about installing a supercharger for a while and use those funds I would of spent on a SC and tuning towards racing my 818R next year.
I went to dealership today, it sounds like they are going to try to repair it and have ordered all the parts they think they need before pulling the motor and opening it up to see the extent of the damage. I'm not happy about it and have voiced my concerns to GM.
Anybody else have this issue? Sounds like its not the first time the dealership had dealt with this problem. even sounds like GM has updated the replacement parts and are different than whats coming out to address this issue.

I think they are wasting everyone's time. Lots of us have cold clutch chatter. I have a ground up built 416 stroker motor with a supercharger. Pull the motor? What dealership are you using??
I am sure they need something to justify their work. Any update?

Agreed. My clutch chatters like crazy when it's cold. Curious about an update too.

Sounds like a rare issue to me--Probably caused by the previous owner beating the crap out of the car----I would not think it is an inherent flaw on the car--My car is an A6 but I have had "0" issues with it---I love to drive it hard but with common sense---I would guess the previous owner did not know how to shift a manual trans "supercar" properly
Any new performance car can have clutch issues if the driver does not know how to use the clutch and shift properly----It's usually always the 1st thing to fail
Sorry for you trouble--But I wouldn't blame GM----
PS: they have had some issues with A6's overheating but I haven't heard of any clutch major problems---other than abuse

OP said " Internal thrust bearing must be bad and they are pulling the motor." I take that to mean the main bearing that has the thrust surface is bad, and does not have anything to do with the clutch, and that is why the dealer is pulling the motor.
Not the first time I've heard of the thrust bearing being a problem on the LT series motors.
If indeed it is a motor main bearing problem, the OP is lucky that it happened before he installed the S/C, as it would have voided the warranty.
