Went to see a new 2016 Z06 with the Z06 pkg. Noticed the tires looked like racing slicks. Was told that this is the standard tire for the car with the Z07 pkg. That it is track ready and would be dangerous to drive on a wet road or a cold road. I understand all that but cannot believe that GM did not install more street type tires on the car as standard and offer the Racing Tire as an option. If I want to buy the car I would have to order the tires that come on the Z06 car to be able to drive it on wet and cold roads? Does not seem right. Not everyone wants to buy the car for the track, like me! The street tires are not cheap. I will find out tomorrow.
GM does offer a version with more street suited tires. It's called the Z06. The Z07's reason for being is the track. Just because it's got more features, or costs more, doesn't make it a "better" car for normal use. If you don't want to drive it on the track, you don't need the ceramic brake disks, either.

Correct. You are buying a "track package" option... I guess I don't get why people look at these options but then complain about the way it is configured. It would be like buying an Ariel Atom but complaining about it being cold. Probably comes across as being a dick, but I see it a lot on here.
Looks like GM has hit the sweet spot on the market for the ZO6/ZO7. It not only has a small number of buyers who want the car more track oriented, it also has a small number who want it less track oriented.
I will add my congratulations, to those of many others, to GM.
I have the Michelin Sport Cup 2's in the 305 size on my C7 LT1. That is the same tire that's on the ZO6 with ZO7 package, just not as wide. They drive fine on the car for the street. They are Michelin s version of street slicks. With these cars and all of that power nothing works well when it rains or is too cold. I put these on because I am at 700WHP and the stock tires just would not hook up.
The Cup 2 tires aren't all that bad in cool weather and heavy rain. I drove 167 miles from the dealer to home in a down pour with ambient temps in the mid 40s. Not an issue even at the 70 mph speed limit. The big problem is tire damage when the temps are in the low 30s or below. The tread rubber tends to crack. They aren't even supposed to be stored at temps below 40. The big problem with the tires is the thin tread depth and you do have to be careful not to spin the tires or you will be shelling out big bucks for replacements.
I like to take my car out when it is cold and I could do that with my C6Z with either the GY EMTs or Michelin PS2 ZP tires.
