Default Removing Shifter **** - problem and question

Greetings,

Thank you in advance for your assistance. I was trying to remove my shifter **** this afternoon and ran into a little problem. Why? To replace shifter with a new MGW Short Throw. I was able to uncouple the ring surrounding the shifter, however, as I tried to remove the torq (screw) the torq tool completely stripped the screw (see pic below).

Any ideas or thoughts about getting that screw out? Thanks.

Dremel/drill a small hole, and use a small extractor bit.

Or just drill it out completely so the entire head is gone, but that could get messy.

I've run into this before. Get a new socket, preferably a Snap-on. I also use one of those mini butane torches to heat up the screw to break the Loctite and the bolt then can be removed.

Are you using the right size torq tool right? Not a allen wrench? If so that should not strip as its a very tight fit. At this point I would try going up one size in torq screw and pound it in there and try to get it out and order a new screw.

I stripped many a Solstice bolt. After the second or third one, I started heating them all. Haven't had a problem since.

Never stripped one with right bit... should be T25.
It would be difficult to drill it out and save the threads, but since you are not reusing the shaft, you could use a larger bit and drill the same size hole as the screw goes through just to get the **** off.

As mentioned, it might be worth trying a small extractor.
