You can get a tune that comes on an sct Xcal or Diablo intune (just a little digital device you plug into your OBD2)., that may add 15 hp tops. They do better when mated to other bolt ons. I don't think they are called chips anymore nowadays.

Jamie, no more chips. But, even better, the new tuners that plug into your OBD2 port can give you many more options. I am using Diablo, that would be a good place to start your research. Good luck man,

Not an insult to the op but that word always makes me laugh. I can always tell when someone knows nothing about cars when they ask me if I "chipped it" lol

There hasn't been a swappable "chip" for a Corvette since 1996 ???

Since the C5 1997, you alter the programming located in the engine computer by using an external device ( computer or handheld device).

Lets be fair there have a lot of names used over the years chipped, and flashed come to mind. I remember when Unichip first hit the market, then suddenly the word piggy back started being used. There are still plenty of cars out there that still require sending the ECU out to be flashed (or reprogrammed if you prefer). I just picked up a 2016 mini cooper s 4 door (my spring and summer dog car) and I installed a AWE CAI and the Berger tuning JB 4 piggy back (along with a throttle controller), on the Range Rover V8 supercharged that must have a reflash (and new pulley) to get the most out of the car, no other way to really tune that one. My 650 has the full Dinan treatment (they switched from flashing ECU's to piggybacks as well), so depending on the car you may get different ways to say the same thing. One more thing I have found on NA engines unless you plan on supercharging or adding a turbo (or two) you are generally not going to see huge gains (enough to probably feel something) and though it would be great if you could take all the mods and add up the gains they say they make and say that is your new number, it usually does not come out like that. I have come to call that Car math over the years since all to often someone will tell me that this mod gave me this this one that and now my car has 75 more hp.

chipped, flashed, piggyback are not interchangeable terms, they all mean something specific.

you can still buy a chip for older cars (80s and 90s)
you can get a piggyback for pretty much anything if you want
but piggybacks are by in large obsolete for applications that can be handled by the stock ECM, in which case is reflashed with a new calibration (and sometimes operating system).

I did not imply that they were, but some car companies have made their software so difficult to get into that even long time companies like Dinan have gone to piggy back units. GIAC has been doing reflashes for probably longer than any company I know of and even they limit the models they offer in certain brands because of the amount of information now stored in the ECU. I have had enough conversations with them over the years trying to convince them to do tunes for certain cars (like the V8 turbo in the 650i) I have owned, never got anywhere. I'm sure they probably could have done it if they thought that it would have been worth the effort. Just a FYI there are a lot more piggy back units out there then you might think, some because that is all you can get, others because owners can easily take them out if need be. Companies like unichip operate in many countries including ours and offer piggyback units for at least 15 different brands (some of which you can get ECU reflashes for) Piggybacks may no longer be a desired option for corvette owners, but I have both Dinan and a Berger piggybacks in my cars and they work pretty well.

Haha, true that. Mind you, Chevrolet is trying to copyright the programming in their ecu's. I wonder if aftermarket ecu's would become common if they manage.

Now, that you have installed headers, it is best that you "save" money on a chip and take your car to a reputable tuner. They will put your car on the dyno and "re-burn" your chip to get the max out of your specific engine.

The money will be about the same. I vote for a custom tune verses a "one size fits all" chip.

Awesome in that you resurrected a post from March 2016 considering you became a member in March 2016.
