What is the limit for the A8 that it can still be left in drive and shift itself flawlessly at the track?? Is there a number that it starts to become a problem??
I have heard from a friend that his 700hp A8 needs to be shifted in paddle mode to keep from bouncing off the limiter at the track. There is no doubt the car will run a quicker ET in drive - track mode. Yes paddles are fun but i would like to be able to put it in drive and let the car shift itself. He stated that other then that it drives normal and even on the highway will downshift as it should and hit each gear perfectly. Seems to be a problem at the track only.
Therefore is this a horsepower number issue?? I have my car going to ECS this weekend for their 1500 kit with meth. I am not looking for huge numbers. More like a reliable 600-625 tire car. Obviously I will talk with Doug before the tuning is done but I just wanted to see if there was a general consensus of how much is too much for the A8 before it starts doing this.
Bouncing off the limiter on 1-2 shift, only at the track or from a standstill. My tuner is going to take some mph out of it hoping that will correct it.
hmm yea I don't like that. I know Doug is great at tuning so I hope he can figure that out. Worst case I know Horsepower addicts in DE seems to be having good luck with the A8 tuning. Maybe they can work together for their customers.
Other than the 1-2 shift is it good on the street in drive?
It can be fixed. My Tuner (Josh from HPA) showed up at the track to log my runs and adjust the shift points accordingly. My car shifts the 1-2 on its own now just fine.
