I drove for about 5 minutes when all of a sudden my instrument cluster went totally black. I shut the car down for about 1 minute and restarted it but the cluster remained blacked out. I then pulled checked fuses 50 & 51. They both were fine. I put the back in, restarted and the dash worked perfectly. I guess by pulling the fuses acted like a total reboot of the system. I'm curious to see if others ever experienced this. Is this a known problem?

No but in a lot of times pulling the fuse out are unhooking the batt for a small time will reboot stuff for sure in these new cars.
Mine (2014 C7 base, build 6/2014) has had the main cluster go black during driving one time, and it came back on it's own after about 10 seconds of being black. I chalked the event up as a software glitch, as it hasn't done it again, and the vehicle didn't lose power or control when it happened. These electronic LCD dashes have their own processors, firmware, and interfaces, some rumor the code base to be in the millions of lines. Anything's possible with that much coding - and I doubt these systems have ECC and thread-safe software in them.
Just got my 2018 Stingray V51 lt3 about 5 weeks ago. My LCD dash display has gone black and returned 3 times. Once I tried to change driving modes after it came back on. The lcd got stuck in the space in between 2 modes. Most recently it went black and back on in about 30 seconds and all was fine. Dealer wants me to bring it in and leave it "for a while" as electric problems are hard to diagnose. The limited warranty is only drivetrain. Yes my HUD goes blank too.
This one? I just noticed the nut looks rusty. Odd nothing else in there is. Anyway, its very tight but i think ill take it off and replace it/ckean it.
What does that wire do? What happens if i disc it and reconnect? Will i have to reset something?
The black wire has caused issues with electronic problems on the C7,,,, good catch. Wire brushing clean and reconnecting should be good. Just a side note,,,, don't use dielectric grease directly on any electrical connecting points

Thank you

Thank you
Not really but ...don't take any chances removing it with the power connected. Just remove the cables first before you remove the black wire to clean it . I had to repair mine after it broke .

From what I can see and test that small black wire goes straight up to the cigarette lighter style power outlet. When i took it off, I followed it straight up the side panel and put a meter on it and the outlet.
BTW it was completely ckean like new under the nut through the wire connector and connection to battery terminal. So no problem with any connection there.

Yep I did not think it was the cause of your problem but you never know . The black wire does go to the charge port in the back and it also spliced into the wire harness that goes to the ECM

Thanks Dave, we'll see I guess. The dealer where i just bought it like 5 weeks ago is being redicilous so. I guess I'll just let it be at this point.
