Default Tranny Temp question

I was 2hrs in to a 4 hr drive and the tranny temps conserned me. I had the cruise set on 85-90mph. It got as high as 261 but went back down to about 245 when I slowed down to 70mph. Ambient Temperature was around 92° outside. Plus I was going up and down through some elevation. The digital reading in the center is from my dashlogic unit. Car has ECS, LT's & meth. Oil temp and coolant were perfect!! Any thoughts would be great.. Thanks...

I haven't done any hilly driving in really hot weather, except at the track on a road course, where its pretty easy to get that kind of tranny temp. It really depends on your rpm - if you keep the revs up in 92 deg heat the tranny oil temp will get up there for sure.

Maybe use 6th for a bit to cool it down

I have had the same concerns from day 1 on my new C7---When GM moved the front tranny cooler which gets cool air from the front- to the top of the right rear fender the trans cooling system took a hit----GM's thought was that it was better to remove weight on the front rather than worry about the trans overheating
In town after driving for only 30 mins---my trans temps would spike to 225 on a cool day and on a hot summer day it would read above 250 This really scared me as i don't care what GM says a 250* tranny is destined for failure
SO-----while still in warranty I became pro active rather than waiting for a failure
1. I installed a 160 radiator thermo and made the fan come on much soone rto aid in trans cooling
2. I installed a B&M deep aluminum trans pan---Holds 3-4 qts more--They actually don't have a part # for the C7 but after taking measurements I found the Camaro A6 pan would fir a C7--
3. I also tuned the trans to eliminate all the TCC lockups--only leaving the 5th and 6th gears to lock up This prevents the converter from continually locking and unlocking at city and freeway speeds
4 The stock 6th gear lock up is tuned at a very low 42 MPH---This makes your car lug around town with very low line pressure--All bad for overheating the trans fluid--So I tuned the TCC to lock up at 55 MPH is 6th gear--So it only locks basically when you are on the freeway--No more lugging---Higher RPM's make the trans fluid flow faster which aids in cooling when the line pressure goes up--
RESULTS My car now on a cool day never hits 185 in town and maybe 195 on a hot day
If driving for over 1 hour in town on a hot day it may reach 200--BUT it coos down very quickly (unlike before) when you get it moving at higher speeds

Why is 250 bad if GM says it isn't bad? If they say it is fine to do then believe them and drive the car without worrying. If it breaks it is on their nickel. I would assume a trans that doesn't lock its torque converter would generate more heat in the torque convertor due to the natural slippage that occurs in torque convertors. They lock the TC to increase gas mileage by avoiding the added friction and heat that is generated by a slipping TC. Lugging is another thing that isn't bad unless you are running the engine below its minimum operating rpm of 900 rpm.
