Hydrocarbon trap?
Just read an ad for a performance air filter that retains the OE hydrocarbon trap. What the heck is that?
Here it is:
"The 360 degree urethane frame offers a snug OEM style fit and exceptional breathability. Installation is simple and is designed to retain the factory hydrocarbon trap."

Searched
Google search revealed nothing other than the possibility that the term "hydrocarbon trap'" refers to a trap made from hydrocarbon resin.
If this is true, then what is it trapping?

Maybe it's the same thing like the C6 had in the air bridge. A baggie (for lack of a better term) filled with charcoal pellets that was glued inside the duct that would sometimes break away from oil contamination and, if you were lucky, be stopped by the throttle blade. Don't know if the C7 has one or not. FWIW, the one in my Trailblazer split open and covered the air filter with these pelllets
