Default Custom tune back out plan

Next month I'm planning on getting 1 7/8 ARH long tubes and a custom tune installed on my '14 Z51 M7. I already have a CAI in place. Everything else is bone stock. I plan on keeping all the stock parts...just in case. The question is, should I purchase an handheld tuner so that I can save my stock tune and if ever needed, easily switch back to stock parts and tune down the road? Right now I have no plans on selling or trading up with the car but you never know right?

If a handheld tuner or similar is a good idea any recommendations? I don't plan on doing anything but having the ability to go back to stock and clearing error codes if needed.

Thanks in advance.

Your tuner should be able to provide you your stock tune files. Of course you'll need a device to store/load them.

EFILive & Diablosport have solutions. Not sure about HP Tuners.

Thanks for the reply. Was leaning towards a Diablosport but was wondering if this is what others have done who only intend on doing bolt on upgrades.

I've read a lot of great reviews about Lew with Diablosport. You'll need a custom tune to turn off the codes set by the headers. The canned tunes won't do it.

I used the EFILive/AutoCal setup with a remote tuner for my truck (2014 Silverado 5.3L L83) with good success.

HPTuners will allow you to download the stock tune and save it. That's actually how you get started with it. You download the stock tune and start making adjustments, save the adjusted as a new file, and reload it onto the car's ECM. Easy peasy...I think that it's always a good idea to keep a copy of the stock tune. You might not ever need it, but will have it if you do.

What types of codes will be set by headers? I assume the O2's will squawk about too much flow, etc? Where are the provisions to turn them off in HPTuners? Thx

Good feedback. I'm having ARH install long tubes with cats while at Carlisle followed up by a tune from Doug at ECS. This along with the CAI I already have should be enough to keep me happy for a while until I can convince my wife why I really "NEED" a blower.

I'll never do more than bolt ons and will most likely never use the hand held tuner for tweaks but I do think having the ability to go back to stock if needed is a good idea.

There's a cat efficiency code that will be set. I've not done it personally, but I assume you just set the tune to ignore that code. Two actually, one for the left bank, one for the right.

For my truck (Kooks headers with green cat y-pipe) it was P0420 & P0430.
