Default Need new tires.

Well I am going to need new tires on my 15 Z51 soon. I was hoping someone could get me started down the right path.
I do not track the car so I do not need the stock Michelins. I would rather have a nicer riding tire but I do want run flats. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OEM Michelin is the only run-flat available on Tirerack's website.

If you wanted to try a "taller" tire for a Z51, these *should* fit:

P ZERO RUN FLAT
Max Performance Summer

Front: 245/40R19 94Y
Run Flat
$293.64

Rear: 275/35R20 102Y XL
Run Flat
$348.70

(Tire Rack prices)

Something similar was done by a forum member with Michelin AS3 non-runflats here:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ze-wheels.html

I'd be curious to see the results.

Just a different take here... "run-flats" are not magic... they simply have enough sidewall stiffness to go 50 miles with no air.

However, most high-performance tires that you would put on a Corvette also have major sidewall stiffness.

If you have a simple puncture (a nail for example), with a slow leak, a can of tire repair goop, or even a stop for air every 50-100 miles will get you home ok.

If you have a catastrophic failure... (a bad pothole or road debris), that destroys the sidewall, a "run-flat" is not going to give you significantly more protection than a standard tire.

IMHO, "run-flat" technology is great for a soccer-mom in a minivan, but on a performance car, its just legal corporate a**covering.

Buy a great performance tire, pay a few bucks for towing insurance, and forget about it.

My 2014 z51 doesn't need tires yet but I know what I'll be getting when the time comes: Nitto 555's. I put 210,000 miles on my '99 and was only 20% into my third set of Nitto's (replaced the run flats at 25k when I bought the car in '01).

I will admit they were not great in the rain or snow but neither are the run flats. Much better ride and quieter than run flats for sure. Huge bargain when price/performance is compared to the mileage you get out of them.

I am assuming similar characteristics translate to the c7 sizes but again I haven't tried them yet.

Do not get 35 series tires in the rear. I made this mistake and my car rubbed on any bump when I had it lowered on stock bolts. Both sides. Now I raised it about half way and it still rubs on some tight corners and 100% when cornering hard.

Just get non-runflats and carry a bottle of "fix-a-flat". Much simpler and softer.

For me it's going to be Nitto Invo's when I need to replace on my C7 Z51.

Look in the classified section. Someone's selling the Michelins for dirt cheap with 35 miles on them. I'll be getting a set from someone selling their new tires when it's time
