I might just try to get by with stock for this year then upgrade everything for next year. I upgraded the fronts with AP Racing 2 piece rotors and use the DBA rotors on the rear. That along with the Ferodo ds2500 pads have worked great for me all year this year on the track and on the street (not to mention no longer needing to mess with those cooling rings).
I've tracked my Z51 3 times this year on stock z51 rotors/pads. about 130 laps total at Laguna Seca.
Chevy just replaced my front rotors and pads with brand new parts (courtesy replacement)
However my rears are squeaking like crazy and sure they need to be replaced.
Should I replace the rear with an upgraded rotor/pad even though the front is stock right now?
Or just replace the rear with stock components, then wait until its all toast again then upgrade everything at once?
I have a track day tomorrow, and looking to get at least 1 more in before the end of the year.
thanks
(I drive the car about 3 days a week to work - about 200 miles total a week so it is important that it does not squeak as it bugs the sh*t out of me)
Why would you get GM to replace your rotors under warranty? After all, they do go out quickly when used at the track; it's the nature of the beast.
Stock pads usually squeak when they don't have much pad left, so it might be dangerous. That said, it would be dangerous if you substantially increase the rear brake bite without touching the front. Rear rotors should last a lot longer than fronts. You could probably source rear stock pads for very cheap to get through your last events.
My stock rear z51 squeaked bad too around 11k miles. They had plenty of pad left too. I changed mine out to power stop but they are not for track duty.
Just curious, were you experiencing any unusual symptoms from the front brakes that precipitated the dealer replacement, or just wear?
I did a track day or 2 on the stock stuff, told the dealer during my oil change they were a bit funny feeling so they resurfaced the rotors. However when they resurfaced them, they took too much off which prompted the swap for new rotors and pads.
to the other guy, why would I have the dealer swap them? Because they offered and it was free. Why would I not. Or are you going to tell me how I should have mentioned I was racing, and how I need to pay outright for replacements, and how I should buy them all coffee and donuts for the sh*tty service they have provided me on every other issue i've had beside this one?
Anyway, I think I will buy stock gm rear rotors and pads for now and upgrade next season. The rears are wavy at this point and need to go.
Just get Napa rotors for 35 bucks - beat the crap out of them and swap them out - its part of the pre-track prep we go threw every time the car heads to the track.
