How many run multiple HPDE's before changing the oil & filter?
I had two weekends back to back & didn't change the oil.
No issues.
Another VIR event at the end of this month.
DIC shows 73% oil life on Mobil1 15w-50.
Probably not worth risking an engine for a $100 in oil & a filter, but thought I'd ask.

If you reset the OLM after the last oil change then it will tell you when to change the oil. The OLM takes into account HOW the car has been run, so it "knows" that you did aggressive driving and calc's the oil life accordingly. Looks like you still have a way to go.

Thanks! That pic was taken out at Park City Powder Cats. Best day of skiing in my life.
Love Alta and the 'Bird, work at the 'Bird.
Worked at Canyons for 15 years....not a fan of the CAN.

Ski the Bird myself! I like Alta for relief of the boarders!
I ran three track events on my last oil service, I used 0w-40 and had no temp issues. OLM still reads in the 70 percentiles.
Are you sure it is smart enough for track events?

I ran 4 events at VIR for a total of 11 days and then changed the oil. The oil change is less than $100 if you do it yourself and buy the oil at Walmart. Using Walmart you can get it done for about $65. I just buy two 5 quart containers and dump both of them into the engine. It comes out about .3 tenths of a quart below the half quart over level you are supposed to run.

As far as events, I usually do about 6 days worth which usually comes out to around 3,000 miles when you factor some weekend driving. Oil Analysis has been fine thus far.

I live about 15 miles from the track and will be driving to and from the track, and would like to get a few track days out of the oil, since I am looking at doing another event in Oct and Nov, so I want to keep the 15W50 in. Sounds like this isn't an issue?

I asked this question at Spring Mountain and they said they change the oil in those cars about every 3000 miles, which was determined by doing tests on the oil.
I change mine after about 10 hours of track time, just to be safe.

Is there any rationale regarding the overfill for track use? What if one normal fills and just follows their oil level through the day?
Anyone drain their single track day oil into a clean bucket, strain it with a cheese cloth or paint filter and reuse it the next track day? 2 hours of track time seems like a waste of 10qts of oil (which I now have waiting for the local recycling plant).

I did send oil for analysis after 4 track days on a very new engine. Results are excellent. I don't think oil degrades much by track use on this car (LT1). If it were LT4, though, I'd be more worried.

I'll probably do a third weekend at VIR on this oil, then dump it.
My oil temps were pretty low in the 95 degree heat - 257 in the in lap and I always cool the car down by driving a couple miles at low RPM/speed after each session.

I'm doing my 1st HPDE on the 30th and will be doing my 15W50 oil swap this weekend. One question I've been meaning to ask deals with the .5 qt overfill and keeping the it overfilled when not driving on the track....does this not cause the issue of oil in the air intake?

As for oil in the intake I haven't even looked. I am not going to take my supercharger lid off to look in there either. I have seen the pictures and I really don't think it makes a difference.

Another question:
My oil is brand spanking new and I'm going to the track this weekend. Has anyone ever just put the oil in (clean) containers and refilled? It seems kind of silly to waste 20quarts of oil (current clean stuff and 15-50 for the track) over one track day. Sort of like race pads.
Then again, I'm not sure I'd save the 15-50, but at least the street oil.

No reason why you can't save and re-use either oil (track or street oil)....as long as you have a method for draining and storing the oil in a clean, uncontaminated fashion. The key to that being successful is cleanliness of the process.

I've had my oil tested after 20 hours of track time and it still looked good.
Mobil also has 5W50 oil which I've run for track days in the spring when it can be rather cool in the morning.

The Mobil Euro 0W-40 did not test as well as I think both the 5W-30 and 10W-30 did by a long shot.
Well not so fast! the new 0W-40 Mobil 1 “FS” is 3rd, highest tested oil out of the bottle ever!
But don't expect the same out of the old 0W-40 (it's at #100 on the list)
