Just close the hatch. I have done this for over 2 years and there is no damage to the paint

That is a good location per your pics in post #14. That is where I check my battery voltage.

If the OP wants to make a permanent way to have a small plug come out the grill he can use the terminal going to the front fuse panel. Remove the plastic cover.

Put RING TERMINAL OVER THE BOLT THEN ADD A NUT ON TOP. do not remove OEM nut! Use inline fuse to protect the wire. Another ring terminal can be used on any bolt in the frame.

I am wondering why you're getting the flashing red light which should be an indication of a problem.

Sometimes chargers will not start charging a battery if the voltage is too low. I learned a trick to get around that problem: connect the charger to a battery that it will charge and then connect the terminals of that battery to the one that won't charge. I was able to bring one battery back to life after 3 different chargers wouldn't start the charging process when connected directly to it.

The weather stripping seal is designed to be compressed in normal operation and the additional very small amount from the charger cord matters not to the cord nor the weatherstrip.

IF you run the cord out the passenger side then you might want to put a reminder not to leave with the maintainer plugged in. A backup safety device would be to use a male/female connector near where the line exits the hatch. The flat blade types usually require less force to remove than the circular pin types so use one of these and wire the female side to the C7 side of the cable, put a little foam or other soft material around the connector. Now if you forget the cable will harmlessly separate at the connector and the foam will protect your finish with the only damage that you will look goofy driving down the road until you discover your oversight and you will feel goofy about forgetting.

I don't think this is necessary BUT if you are already a member of the flying roof club then you might want to do this to avoid becoming a member of the "tug a maintainer" club.

Another bright dealer who didn't check that you were plugging it into the proper socket above the battery!!!
