How do you guys remove the chalky wax residue from the edge of the Diamond Plate in front of the rear wheels? I have tried a tooth pick with no luck. Is there a liquid product I can put on a Q-Tip to remove this? Thanks
Sorry, I did not mean to confuse anyone. The title should have been Removing WAX residue. I think the the actual name of the protective covering is Diamond Shield and not Diamond Plate. Thanks
Go to any automotive paint supply store and ask them for a small can of "Wax and Grease Remover". They're all the same--Sherwin Williams, PPG, BASF, DuPont... buy the cheapest.
Depending on the amount of wax build-up, your job could take 2-30 minutes per wheel opening.
The wax and grease remover applied with a toothbrush may work. It works great getting wax and grease off the paint where there aren't any crevices for the wax to sit in. However, I have tried using it for years in those small spots where the wax residue builds up along an edge or dimpled plastic and found it takes a lot of manual work to get the stuff out if at all.
The easiest way to prevent that is to use a product that doesn't leave a chalky residue. That eliminates a lot of products. The one I have been using for the last few years is Turtle Wax Ice.
