SOLVED. Had to tighten bolt much more than expected.
Hey all. Just installed [mostly] the MGW shifter. Feels great and I'm excited to get it all buttoned up and go for a drive. One question I have though is regarding the side to side movement. It seems like it just freewheels between the 3-4 horizontal and the 5-6 horizontal. Not that it moves by itself but there's no force in between either. It definitely clicks in and out of the 1-2 horizontal and the same with the 7-R. [btw I can't get into R...normal while off? Yet I can just move the shifter and let it sit in the 3-4 or the 5-6 as if there's no real fixed center point.
Take a look at the video and you can see what I'm talking about. For all I know the stock one does it and I'm simply not remembering that fact. I just want to make sure everything is correct before putting all the trim back in.
EDIT. Also noticed that it moves a lot back and forth while in a gear. I imagine it's not supposed to do that. That may be the reason for the sloppy center gate?
it shouldn't do that, maybe it not installed right!! i didn't install mine yet but it obvious that it shouldn't do that, if i was you i would contact MGW
Thank you! I was rocking the mobile when I posted.
So what does everything think is the deal? I've seen instances of where this has happened with the MGW but not a solution. I'm certain that I screwed something up and that it's not the shifter.
So here's the issue. The shifter is moving a good bit before the linkage bolt turns. See video below. No matter what I do I can't get them to move in sync. Suggestions?
That rolling can only happen if the bolt that goes into the remote transmission piece isn't quite in the 1/2 round slot and tight. Go back and check that the bolt is caught in that half round. Use a really bright light. Once in place and tight, your issue will be solved.

Thank you that was exactly the issue. I didn't have a torque wrench small enough for the job. I twisted it so tight the first time that it started to deform. I figured that had to be good enough. Nope. I went back in and switched two of the bolts so now I was working with one with a fresh head. That new bolt immediately made the system have less play. I was able to get that one very tight and suddenly..BAM..it's perfect. Thank you everyone!
No torque wrench. Watch videos. Firmly hand tighten is fine, no need to crank on it. The key with that particular bolt is following procedure I posted above. Once that bolt is lined up with the half round notch, when tightened its held securely captive.
...and the shifter is well worth the price and relatively easy install.

I had a problem when the bolt wasn't tight enough but no issues now.
OK, sounds like I need to take things apart again to tighten the bolt. It was fine when I first put it in but by the end of the second track day I started having issues.
