Default TPSM question

I bought a set of 18 inch wheels for the track. Question I have - If I buy TPSM sensors, will the car recognize the new sensors and automatically change back when I put street tires on? 2017 Z06 - Iron Rotors

Not even sure I need TPSM for track tires. But since the car is equipped with the PDR, nice to get the pressure info on the Cosworth software.

This is a set I found on Amazon.

Amazon Amazon

Any better deals to be had. Appreciate any input.

Yes your car will learn the new TPMS on it own and revert back to the other ones.

Here you go. You basically wait 20 minutes without moving the car, and you may see TIRE LEARNING ACTIVE on the DIC if you were in the car, but:

Option #3; if you don't want to bother installing TPMS units in your track set of wheels, you can hit the local Home Depot and buy 6" of 3" PVC pipe and two 3" end caps. Drill 4 holes in the PVC to fit your TPMS units and one hole to install a valve stem. Glue the end caps on and pressurize it to 30 PSI....now throw it in the rear compartment. The system will see the 30 PSI from all four TPMS units and call everything good.

What will the cluster read if no tpms used ?. I've used runflats for 10 years on my Camaro without sensors. When I purchase a c7 this summer I'm thinking of doing the same but I don't know what indicators or warnings the dash will display.

Don't forget to dance like a crazy miner, click your heels, and yell "Yee Haw! I just saved me 0.02% of the MSRP of my racing car!"

Seems like saving that little on a safety feature is false economy, but to each their own. It's clever in its own too-cheap-to-be-real way :-P

You've got to run tire pressure sensors in runflats!!!!!!!!!!!

You just don't get the handling feedback if one loses pressure that you get with a non-runflat.

With the stiff sidewalls, if you're running down the highway and lose pressure, you won't even know it!! That is, until you take the off-ramp in your usual spirited manner and end up on the guard rail!

The C7 sensors also send temperature data to the TPMS. They don't display the actual temperature - just cold, warm, hot display on the DIC.

You can read the actual tire pressure.

I use the increase in tire pressure and the cold/warm/hot display at the track to make sure that my tires have warmed up before cornering real aggressively.

I know in the C6 it could be terrible if you didn't have sensors, but I think in the C7 you may be OK if you don't run any sensors at all. If you have, say, sensors in your front wheels/tires, but change the rears to DR's without sensors, if the TPMS gets some sensor data from a couple wheels but not from others it may cause problems.

Bottom line - you need sensors with runflats; the C7 gives you good info to use to tell you about your tires; running none is probably better than having them in only a couple wheels.

I had a "ding-ding-ding" accelerating through about 140mph out of NASCAR T2 at Daytona. I looked down and saw that the right front was down to 18psi. I slowed down and limped back to the garage to swap on a new set of tires, and pressure was down to zero when I got there. I was running runflats and never had any handling indication, so the sensors allowed me to slow down before trying the take the Bus Stop (the chicane on the back straight) at normal speed. If I hadn't been on runflats I probably would have been into the wall. Even with non-runflats an early indication that I was losing pressure may have saved my butt.

I won't run street or track, runflat or non-runflat, without tire pressure sensors!!!!!!
