Default 2017 GS memory seat issue

I just got the car last week. I set the memory seats yesterday and they seemed to work fine (both entry and exit settings). Then today when I drove it, only the exit setting works. Meaning, when I shut the car off, the seat goes back and then steering wheel moves up. But when I get in and start it, the seat never moves and I have to move it up myself. Any advice?

I'd say get used to the Jeckyl and Hyde Seats. Regardless of anything anyone tells you this will be an on and off issue for you. Its annoying for sure but let this be the worst thing that happens.

Oh great. I started it up this morning and the seats went right to my drive setting. I get out and the seats moves back so that I may exit. I'm thinking great they work. Then I came out of the store and got back in and started it up, the seat never moved. It stayed in the exit position.

Set the exit position so that it is about an inch forward of having the seat all the way back. If the seat is all the way back, it can at times contact the limit switch. When the seat is in contact with the limit switch, the memory will not work.

Try keeping the parking brake set until the seats move into position. If not, press and hold the memory button #1 or #2 on the driver's door.

If the car is a manual transmission, the park brake needs to be set in order for the memory to work.

Note: there appears to be two versions of the software. One requires the brake, the other does not. The newer cars which should include your GS should have the version which requires the brake.

My two week old Z06 acted erratic after the first day or so. My issues appeared to be related to me want full retract and tilt on the steering but I can't guarantee it.

Have you tried getting out, moving the seat forward manually, and then trying it all over again?

Sometimes they get "stuck" on the sensor behind the seat that limits travel rearwards. Like they hit that, get super-cautious, and refuse to do the memory thing anymore until knocked out of that state.

Had the same problem at first with my GS M7 (build date 12/16/16). As Boiler81 said, you must have the parking brake set before the seats will return to normal at startup on some M7 cars. This was not the case with my 2015 A8. I didn't see a reference to that in that section of the 2017 manual, but there are numerous references to setting the parking brake in other areas. This has been documented in other threads, but Tadge Juechter's recent letter about memory seat operation doesn't mention it either.

When I park it overnight its in my garage which is level, so I never use the parking brake. I will start using it and see what happens. Thx a lot for the info.

There is a very good tutorial video on youtube. Check out cuteginger C7, helped with my memory issues, and offers help on many programmable issues.

Same here, but I've always made it a policy to use the parking brake any other time. Like you, I thought my car had a defect at first until checking this forum and calling the dealer. He hadn't mentioned that in his pre-delivery presentation, and I rarely set it with my 2015 A8, which had no such requirement with the memory seats. Now it works as expected.

FINALLY!!! I always set the parking brake now (even when parking on level or in my garage) and the seats now work 100% of the time. Thanks so much.

I just recently selected the exit seating option in the settings because I kept getting too close to the wheel with my pocket knife. After that, it will not automatically return to the driving position. I always use the same fob and always use the parking brake. After I start it, I have to hold down the "1" button until the wheel gets back into my driving position. It's kind of annoying, but I'm sure there's a setting I'm missing somewhere.

There was a service bulletin out on this. You cannot have either seat memory or exit memory set all the way to the rear or it will short the auto recall switch. Even if you do not set it all the way back, but accidently manually move it back it will trip the switch. So set it back no closer than like a half inch from the max rear position. If it trips, just move the seat forward manually or press your recall button on the door and you should be good. They really should fix this.

Thanks for the advice. I'm 6'3", so the seat is always all the way back, which is probably the issue. I'll mess around with it and see what happens.
