I saw on line that West Coast Corvettes sells a Skip shift eliminator kit for 7 speed manual transmissions (I would imagine 6 speed as well). I just purchased a 2017 Grand Sport w/M7 and wanted to ask if anyone on the forum has installed one of these? If so, are they easy to install and are they effective?
Yes, they are easy to install and effective. I personally don't find one necessary, but a lot of people do. I would just buy the least expensive one you can find, they're all the same. You do have to get under the car to connect it though.
I installed mine a few hours ago. Works fine. Got it from Amazon--Muzzy's 2017.
Raising the car and coming up with a way to temporarily secure it away from the exhaust took 30 minutes. Took maybe 5 minutes to do the actual install. In a few days when I change the oil I will wrap some high temp exhaust shield around it and resecure the bundle.
The Muzzy's is added in-line with the CAGS connector--why it takes a little more work to secure and insulate given the existing heat shield around the sensor/connector.

1st thing I did to my Z06 last June. Been flawless since the install. In fact I forgot about it until I saw your post.

Greetings,
You'll spend more time jacking up your Corvette, securing it, crawling underneath of it, than installing the SSE Kit. I slipped under mine from the rear.

The system works flawlessly.

Love the pic, nothing like being extra safe (jack/jackstands/blocks. I never feel totally safe under any car much less these 'cause if it drops, even if your in the middle it'll crush your butt!
I've never had the skip shift light come on in my GS. Does it only come on in touring mode? I only drive in Sport or Track mode so maybe that is why I dont see it?

I bought one and never installed it. It hardly ever actuates. You'd have to be crawling along at 5mph away from a stop light.
My driving style resulted in cags getting activated a lot. It throws me off every time so I installed the skip shift. Without this I would really be hating the m7.
Is there anyone in south Florida that could help me out installing one of these? My driving style commonly has me shifting at around 18 MPH under light throttle which is exactly when the stupid shift-skip message pops up. After my warranty expires I will have it tuned out for good.
I could also use some help installing the CAGS eliminator. I've got my '14 Z51 roadster up on jack stands to change the oil and slid under it on the creeper to install the harness and have no idea where to look for it. There are several wiring harnesses and connectors on the transaxle and I have no idea which side, high or low to look for the thing. Don't remember which vendor I got mine from but package says 'Caspers Electronics' and directions are for a C6 with '6' crossed out and '7' handwritten in with a pen. Very professional...not! Says to locate a white connector but don't know if that's correct for the C6 or C7.
If someone has some pics they could point me to that give the area of the trans to look for I would very much appreciate it.
On another note, I've got my jackstands placed in the proper place at the outer ends of the crossmember adjacent to the composite spring and they sure are close together. I have no perfectly level area in my driveway and I'm wondering if it's safe to start the car to let the engine warm up prior to changing the oil? Of course I won't be under it, but sure would hate to have it fall while on the stands. What do others think?

No it will come on in any mode if you are driving slow enough. Skip shift only activates under light throttle between the speeds of 14 and 19 mph (give or take a mph). If you are just a smidge heavier on the throttle it will not activate. If you shift to second below 14 or above 19 it doesn't activate. It usually hits people when they are in heavy traffic leaving a traffic light while following a slow moving car. That is when people forget to shift early or late and try to shift to second between 14 and 19.
If that happens it is easily defeated. As soon as you feel the shifter being forced toward 4th push it forward partially into 3rd and then pull back to 2nd. This can be a fluid motion once you get used to it and you don't let the clutch out until the transmission is in 2nd. It adds maybe 1 second to the time it takes to shift but who cares you aren't going anywhere anyways as the car in front is poking along.
The ease of doing all of this means any money spent defeating it with an electronic toy is a total waste of money and more importantly time.
^^^^ Thanks for the explanation. I never shift out of first at that low of a speed so that explains why I haven't seen it. I've only driven back roads for the most part since I got the car a few weeks ago. Could be a different story when I start driving it more frequently if it ever warms up around here.
