New 2017 Z06. At approximately 1,300 miles. The transmission locked up in 4th gears (automatic) during driving. Start from a dead stop: Locked in 4th gear, Tried manual mode and paddles with no help. Drove it to the nearest stopping point. Turn Ignition off and cycled gear shifter thru Park, Neutral, and Reverse. Back to drive or manual - still stuck in 4th. Check engine lite came on. All engine temps and pressures normal. Engine ran good with no clear issues. Towed to Chevrolet Dealership. The next all normal where it currently sits at the dealership. This is an ominous sign of major Z06 problems!
Locking into 4th gear is the protective limp mode for the 8L90 transmission and is designed to prevent you from being stranded while protecting the transmission from further damage. A common reason for this is loss of communications with the transmission as those who use Range anti-AFM devices have found out. The stored codes should indicate the issue and it will be sorted out. With this low mileage it is quite possibly a connector that wasn't seated properly during assembly.

The exact same thing happened to my C6 Automatic transmission when I was out of town. It locked up in 4th gear and check engine light came on. I drove it home 50 miles on the highway and I took it to the dealer the next day and they said that a sensor in the transmission was faulty. They ordered a new sensor and installed it and problem fixed. It took a day to fix. My transmission had 70,000 miles on it when this happened. Going on 80,000 miles now and no problems. Might be the same type of problem in the C7 transmission.
If you have a good dealer, they should find the problem pretty much instantly by reading the codes set in the computer. I didn't even get to finish a cup of coffee in the waiting area and they came back with the diagnosis!!
