I have a 2016 corvette with the chevy performance exhaust. And it is loud but my friend just got the 2017 camaro ss zl1 and when it turns on, it revs higher on startup. Are car shops able to go into the computer to change the settings on how much the car revs at startup? Or is there anything specific that I should tell them?
Since you're new here, and have a 2016 that is presumably still under warranty --- you should also be aware that changing the engine programming as stated above will end up blocking (aka, "voiding") the powertrain portion of your factory warranty. And yes, GM can tell if you've modded the computer and then "un-modded" it back to stock.
Which model 2016 do you have? The ZL1 uses the 650 HP LT4 like the Z06 which is louder than the base model LT1 engine. They are loudest at cold start because of the need to meet cold start emissions by quickly getting the cats hot so it is running rich at that point.
I try to remember to set my Z06 exhaust back to tour when traveling to avoid being obnoxious when cold starting it at a hotel in the morning. I forgot one morning last year in Townsend TN and a Harley rider laughed and said his bike just pissed itself when my Z started up next to it.
And I agree with those who warned you about tuning the engine for this since it will void your powertrain warranty potentially making that increased loudness VERY expensive if something goes wrong during warranty.
I have to ask if you are starting the car in sport mode or in touring? Keep the car in sport mode and the flaps will be open when you start it. Or like mentioned above pull the fuse and they will always be open.
As NSC5 pointed out earlier, the reason the car sounds like that is because it's dumping excess fuel into the combustion chamber to make the car run rich in order to warm up the cats. Simply put, the car is not designed to sound like this for more than about 30 seconds after start up. If you really want to sound close to that, put 2" long tube headers on it with no cats and a big lumpy cam. That'll get you there..
Well if you park it in track mode then it changes to touring for the next start. In touring the flaps are closed. This is how my 2014 operates anyhow.
Sorry, to clarify I meant the exhaust (engine sound management) is set to track mode. I have exhaust mode and steering unlinked from driver mode so the exhaust stays in track and the steering stays in sport regardless of driver mode setting. Mine is a 2016 and I think for 2014 you would set engine sound management to off which has the same effect as setting the 2016 sound management to track.
