Default Gutting X-pipe anyone?

Is it possible to gut a catted x pipe? I am going supercharger and headers route and some suggest to not have cats on the car. My concern is not only inspections but if any issues come up later down the road having no cats.

600whp should I be worried about melting cats?

I did on the c5 set up. It is a PITA to get it all out. But you need to are it will what you don't get out go back and stop up the mufflers.

Now on my c7 I got the x pipe that deleted the rears and just have the front's on it. Robert

Robert,

Where are the fronts located at? Is there an exhaust diagram anywhere that details the layout?

Are you keeping them on with your force induction setup?

Suggestion ....Just look for a used catless X pipe. But yes you can bash the internals out of the stock one.

Still have the front cats. Delete via headers or replacing them with tubing. Will need a tune

I'm Procharged and getting headers and X pipe installed soon. And upping boost w/ meth

KK C7 what he is saying will be the best. If you put on LT headers. That will move the front cats down to about under your feet under the floor board. But if you buy cated X pipe you will have to do like you said plus will cost more for the pipe.

I DID THE SO CALLED PERFORANCE CATS SO WILL SEE HOW LONG THEY LAST WITH THE BLOWER. Robert

I gutted one. A lot of work. I saw very little change in sound, no way for me to measure any performance gain, but I doubt there was any.

Get a Corsa or Borla x pipe. Problem solved.

Why pay for these pipes when you can just gut the stock pipes?

I gutted my rears, and with stock front cats the sound wasn't very different. MAYBE a little louder. BUT, when I put on Norcal's main cat delete pipes it got A LOT LOUDER. More power, maybe. Still can go quiet when needed with stock mufflers.

Here's some pics of what a gutted X-pipe looks like when done right, most likely a lot of work. However if they do visuals you may want to make the effort along with saving some money too.

Does anyone know if the gutted X-pipe adds any extra hp like the Borla X-pipe (approx. 10 hp from what I have seen here).

I see that several respondents have suggested getting either a Corsa or Borla x-pipe to help improve the sound of the NPP exhaust. My only disappointment with my 2017 Grand Sport is that the exhaust is too quiet. even after removing fuse #42 to open the baffles at all times. Does adding just the x-pipe really make some difference? I just cant spend the money at this time for a complete Borlas exhaust system but want to get more volume from the exhaust.

Anyone else gut their cats and can comment on sound/issues? It looks like it would be a pretty easy job. Any words to the wise on the best method?
