Any high amperage items will have a relay that actually controls the end unit. Example: starter motor. Thinking the cooling fan should have a relay. The engine does have a coolant sensor.

Thanks for your help. According to my 2 temperature gauges, my engine is running hot in traffic with the AC on. Happens once a year, in the spring, AC on, in congested traffic (< 5 mph). After the one time, temp gauge never approaches the top white line on the temp gauge. Just needing this information so I can tell my dealer on what to replace that might control engine temperature. Because the dealer cannot replicate the problem. They just give me the car back with no fix and when next spring arrives it’s like ground hog day. I’m not sure the engine is overheating just a wacky gauge.
This so called overheating problem does not repeat itself during the summer even under the same circumstances. By the way, traffic congestion is so bad I don’t dare to get out of the car to see if the fan is running.
