2014 vert with ~ 15k on the odo. The fuel gauge stops working and the check engine light comes on. The small town Chevy dealership is saying the sending unit is bad and they have to drop the transmission to get to the tanks? On top of that, they are nervous about the repair because the mechanics says dropping the tranny can on the C7 can easily damage the firewall? WTF?
Not sure if I should force the issue, find another dealership in a larger metro area with more experience, or call GM customer service.
One cheap and easy thing to try first is to drop in a bottle of Chevron Tachron concentrate and see if it cleans off the sensors. But if you are under warranty, try a dealer with a more experienced vette service department. Yep, they gotta drop a lot of stuff to get at those senders.

The deal about damaging the firewall seems irrational at first, but if you drop the transmission and do not correctly support the rest of the drive train, the engine could tilt downward enough to get into the firewall.
I would try Techron in the gas tank first. If it works then add a bottle every few thousand miles.
Dreaded check engine light illuminates for a variety of reasons, I have not heard about the fuel quantity indicating system setting a code. Post the code/codes, be interesting to see what you got. If you need a major repair, take the car to an experienced shop.
There are six fuel level sensor codes that result in a default gauge reading of empty. I am assuming that "stops working" means it reads empty. Before dropping the tank, I would be absolutely certain that the diagnostic procedures were followed as the problem could be in the wiring, ECM, BCM, or one of the level sensors..
