Default C7 computers and their functions- HP Tuners scanner oil pressure zero

Greetings,

Has anyone seen any documentation that shows all the computers that are in the C7, and info about their functions and interactions? This is purely for my personal curiosity, and of course I'm definitely not looking for software code or anything like that, just an overview.

What made me curious is the HP Tuners Scanner. I was trying to set up some logging for basic temps and pressures, and that works with the exception of the oil pressure. I haven't found any way to read the oil pressure with the scanner, and the few threads I could find that mention this seem to suggest that the oil pressure only goes to the display/gauge cluster. I'm still trying to verify that with the HP Tuners folks, but it got me wondering about the various computers and their functions.

Thanks,
Rusty

Thanks, that should give me some reading for later.

There's also a list in the shop manual complete with module numbers and so on, if you're super curious.

I saw that in one of the previous threads, and I even checked to see if the 2017 service manuals were released yet. Fortunately they're not, so maybe I can forget about this before they become available and save myself $400

According to the 2014 Shop Manual schematics (alldatadiy.com, subscription costs $26 a year for unlimited access), the Oil Pressure Sensor connects to the Engine / Power Train Control Module, and the oil pressure data is sent to the Instrument Cluster through a Digital Data Bus. The HP Scanner probably does not "know" the address of this data parameter that is available on the PCM data stream.

Alldatadiy seems to be a bit behind. It looks like 2014 is the newest Corvette option.

I'm pretty frustrated with the whole HP Tuners purchase now. I've spent two weeks trying to get this to log basic pressures and temps using their standalone logger. I never would have imagined that oil pressure would be so hard to log...

After a half dozen emails to the support group, we determined that it IS possible to log the oil pressure using a "broadcast" channel, but not using the "polling" channel. Unfortunately, this only works if you have your laptop connected, and NOT with the standalone logger. The logged graph is also pretty screwed up for oil pressure, but at least it gives an accurate number. Sadly, there's no recourse to return it, though they said I was welcome to sell it to someone else

Today I've been playing with an ODBLink MX BT adapter, and it seems to have nearly the same scanning options, so still no oil pressure. I downloaded the Torque Pro version app but can't seem to make it do much. It should be illegal to post apps without manuals, but that's just a personal peeve of mine. It sounds like it might be possible to have a custom PID that could read the oil pressure, but I haven't found anyone who's figured it out yet.

Thanks for the info, and sorry for the frustrated semi-rant.

The custom PID you want is 22115c, though this was from the C6Z and I can't say for SURE it'll work on the C7, worth a shot.

Unit is PSI, max is 100, min is 0, equation for the byte is (A*0.065)-17.5

Also try pinging CF user Mark2009, though I don't think he's been online for about a year, I believe he's done it:

Thanks for the PID info. I know there were some big changes in the C6 and C7 systems, so I'll try to find a known working C7 PID via searching first, then maybe contact Mark2009. I did manage to make Torque Pro log something, but the pre-packaged oil pressure comes up zero as expected. There is the option to add custom PIDs, and if I can get this to work, I'll be really sorry I spent $650 on the HP Tuner suite.

I can log what I wanted with the HP Tuners scanner if I haul the laptop around, and that may not be the worst option since the memory on their standalone logger is so limited. With only a dozen or so parameters logged, I only got 21 min before the memory filled up.

I'm running out of time to mess with this now, so I might have to defer it to another day.

Thanks again,
Rusty

Unfortunately, my searching yesterday led me to the fact that Torque Pro is unable to read broadcast parameters, so even if I know the details, it still won't work. It sounds like a number of people were trying to get it added, but he developer won't reply to any of their inquiries.

Fortunately this is purely hobby and personal curiosity for me, and not something I really need.

Thanks,
Rusty

Which version of HPTuners are you using?
C7 oil pressure is supported in the scanner.
You need version 3.4 or higher.

I'm actually running 3.5 beta, because 3.4 doesn't work with the 2017. It seems they've changed something with the way it's licensed, and they had to give me the 3.5 version to work.

You're showing the broadcast parameters, and the broadcast oil pressure does work, but only with the laptop, and the graph looks really funky. when I scroll across the graph, the psi reading stays steady, nothing like the graphed line.

Of course my original goal was to use the standalone MPVI to keep from having to haul around the laptop. I spent most of my time trying to get that to work, only to find out that it won't. The polling parameters don't work for the laptop or the MPVI, and the MPVI doesn't read broadcast parameters it seems. That leaves laptop only.

Cheers,
Rusty
