Why did you go auto vs manual?

I chose the auto over manual this time. Occasionally I wish i had gone with the M7 but never had any issues with my A8. Had several manual cars in the past and decieded to try auto for my sports car this time. I will admit its more convienent at times vs having a manual and still fun to shift with the paddles when desired. I have about 3300 miles on my 16 model.

Got the auto because this is my daily driver and I get tired of a manual in traffic, especially in hilly mid-MO. I do miss the connection you get from a manual, but get an acceptable facsimile from the paddle shifters.

And have the ongoing issues of torque converter over slippage, fluid drainback while the car sits, etc. that have yet to be resolved (although cases are less and less with each MY).
I have an A8, bought into the hype, and i should have gotten a manual. Shifting is no better than any other auto normal car with the exception of WOT shifts.

It is certainly a personal choice. I have an A6 and it was a hard choice to go auto, after so many stick cars. I'm getting older and I can't row them like I used to. Autos are faster and I've finally accepted that too. lol. I don't miss shifting in traffic as said earlier as well. I do miss shifting from time to time but I know it was the right decision for me. I thought I'd use the paddle shifters, but not so much.
Some #s. In 2016, 40,686 C7s rolled off the line and 31,440 were autos...almost 80%. Lots of reasons for this I'm sure, but that's a big #.

After a string of manuals I really wanted and Audi S5 Vert. The Vert only came with a DCT. So I had my first experience paddle shifting. Had the S5 for 5 years, but really wanted a Corvette.
So I chose the A8 rather than the manual and like it!
I do like shifting, but I am happy to shift without using my left foot. No plans to ever track my car, so not worried about overheating. I like the option to just put it in D once and a while, but typically I am in M, shifting manually for all curves and accelerations but just let it automatically downshift if coming to a complete stop. I found that will a little playing around with shift points (not always WOT, by the way) you can have very acceptable smooth, quick shifts. (and yes, I know it's not a DCT, but it's still faster than I could manually shift)

Watch the video around the 45 second mark. Also between the gas guzzler tax and extra money for the auto you paying around $3k more for a z06 manual vs auto. And overheating if you track it often as the Tadje recommends the manual for customers that will track the car often.

I chose a m7 because I am a man under 80.

Love rowing gears and the sport of "driving"... But got the A8, reason: car is street and strip focused so WOT shifts and pure speed was goal.

I have experience with german cars that have the double clutch. I found the A8 to be unresponsive when demanding a shift compared to what i have driven/own.
I would take a auto in pretty much any car that comes with a double clutch from Europe. the corvette would have to be a manual for me.
so my reason is the A8 is just not good enough for me.

I absolutely love ripping through the gears of my C7 Z06 M7. I do Drag days and AutoX events and there is nothing better than ripping though them. I love my M7 and would not have it any other way.

I had a C5 with 6 speed manual.
As soon as I added power the stock clutch/PP/hyd were an issue.
Upgrade the parts but they don't last long.
More power, Upgrade again
I did some 1/4 mile runs but a lot of travel miles.
So I went A8 on the C7, 2016 Z51
No track use
The 2016 Z51 has the added cooler in the front. No hot trans
yet with street use. The temps have been low.
I have 11,500 miles
I use manual and paddles I also let the auto do the downshifting on the highway. It goes to the best gear each time.
So far the Torque converter is holding up. the rpm dance is a little wide for me 200-300RPM
But if I was road racing I would def go manual.

And I chose the A8 because I'm under 50.
If you want the fastest Vette, get the fastest Vette: The LT4-A8. There is no other.
If you feel like the kind of guy who likes to move cockpit levers for things like changing transmission ratio, fuel-air mixture, timing lead, and so on, then pull on your leather cap and goggles and order the slower M7.
Just be ready to explain to all passengers why it gurgles like a coffee can of rocks at slow speeds.
I traded my manual against this automatic, and I have a non-GM DCT as well (and still two Tremecs in the garage), so I speak from experience. Each has their place.
Others will say the opposite. And that's because, despite how many of these threads get created, there is no right answer. Only a right answer for you, and that's up to you.
Peer pressure will push you to the M7 if you listen hard enough and if you're susceptible to that sort of thing.

Back in the day m7 but now a days way to much sitting in traffic. Even here in Tucson where its much better than most places. I can't imagine in a large hilly city or packed freeways. I traded my m6 c5 for a gs a8 and happy I did.
