Default NPP exhaust

I just picked up my first new 2017Corvette LT1 manual shift 2 weeks ago. I'm loving it. But one option I wanted was the NPP exhaust. Iv'e been doing some research, but still not sure what needs to be done. I think I have learned a couple things. The car does have the 5 driving modes and only two wires coming off the exhaust which I am told are for when the car is in 4cyl mode. I also can see the different exhaust mode selections in the settings on the radio. So I would like to get perhaps a Borla or Magna flow exhaust that I can turn on and off like a NPP when I change driving modes. I am guessing the main wireing harness is there and maybe I just need to get the actuators, replace the axle back exhaust parts and have the cars computer reset. Anyone ever do this and what is involved parts and labor wise? Thanks.

Wiring harness is NOT there unfortunately. I tried to do this back in 2014. Simply put, you cannot add it to the car and have it work as an OEM system if the car was not ordered with NPP. You have four options -

1. buy an OEM NPP exhaust, install it as is. Valves will be left open all the time and arent controlled.

2. Buy and OEM NPP exhaust, purchase the actuators and "control kit" from aftermarket company Akropovic exhausts (only way that makes it work with OEM system) and then you can control it with mode as OEM does.

3. buy an aftermarket exhaust, install it as is. Valves will be left open all the time and arent controlled.

4. Buy and aftermarket NPP style exhaust, purchase the actuators and "control kit" from aftermarket company Akropovic exhausts (only way that makes it work with OEM system) and then you can control it with mode as OEM does.

Hope it helps

Thanks for the advice. I know some of the older Corvettes had vacuum operated. I'm told my 2017 is electronic.I don't know if that is when it started in 2014 with the new body style. My car does have the 5 driving modes which the NPP is supposed to have to switch the exhaust modes when switched to track or racing mode. It also has the exhaust mgt. in the mylink stereo. I know I would have to get actuators to make it work. I will look up the aftermarket one you suggested. I know I also have the option of just getting an aftermarket non-npp exhaust and have the sound al the time. I guess what I am wondering is anything changed for 2017 that might make it easier to convert it.

Nope no changes for 2017. The sound management in the settings doesn't do anything on your car, only affects those that ordered NPP..

Out of curiosity, I was just looking at this for another thread. The Akropovic controller is $600. C7 NPP axle backs on Ebay run about $1000/pair shipped for a "complete" set. Assuming when they say "complete", that the mufflers include actuators, then it would be possible to get OEM style NPP integration for $1600ish. Not terrible I suppose...

Dchevy, please post photos of your exhaust tips. It will allow us to confirm which exhaust you have, because to me, it seems like you're not sure and we can help confirm it.

Hey, thanks for the help. I was thinking of using a Borla or Magna flow exhaust for NPP type. Do you know if the Akropovic controller would work with those?

Thanks, Actually I am sure I have a non NPP. Ultimately, if possible what I would like to do is have it work with the drive mode selector as those equipped with NPP from the factory. What I wanted to do is buy a Borla or maybe Magna Flow, get the actuators from wherever I can get them from as well as any wires to connect to the harness and I would imagine something would have to be reprogrammed in the car. That is just my guess. If not, whatever might be the next best thing.

I'm gonna guess based on the description that the controller works with factory GM actuators. Akropovic sells a kit for $1100 with GM actuators, but it looks like the GM actuators can be bought new for $300ish a side?
