Z51 tires for track days

Bruno, yes I mis-typed the rear tire, I realize its a 30 profile. Also agreed on the rain, thats why I'll still have my original wheels with MPSS in the trailer.

I'd go with NT01 or RS4s then. I enjoyed how the RS3s held together. Plenty of life too.
I wonder if anyone has any experience running a smaller diameter tire front and rear ? Like running a 265/35/18, 305/30/19 setup.

Bruno, for now I'm using the stock Z51 wheels. I bought another set from an inmate here on the for sale forum. When I did that, I figured would be no problem with street tires, just wanted an extra set that would not get beat up. As you know this HPDE stuff is a slippery slope. You get faster, need more stuff, get faster, need more stuff...
I did investigate NT01 and RS4s, but neither are available in the correct size for the stock wheels. As you say, changing to 18/19 opens up a lot more possibilities. Maybe next year when I wear out this set of tires.

Some of the options:
- You can use LG wheels. They're at 18/19, and also 0.5" wider than stock that makes it easier to mount wider tires. They're relatively narrow, but they will fit perfect.
- People also use C5Z rear wheels on all 4 corners, and use 315/30/18 tires on them.
- TSW interlagos at 18x10.5 ET65 also work, but they will stick out at the rear, and will rub on the brake ducting at full lock up front (which C5Z wheels also do)
- Finally, the best solution is custom wheels.

As an update, I thought the PS4S was going to last longer than the PSS, but one of the front tires had something happen that never happened with a PSS. It looks like a section of the tread on the outside edge separated and broke off, down to the threads. So its done, which means I need to replace both fronts at about 75% the time the PSS lasted.
I hope this is not a design/material problem with the PS4S.

Charlie, I don't have a C6 Z06 but from what I read they are 18/19", not 18 on both ends. Is that what you meant? Using C6 Z06 rims, which are plentiful on the for-sale forum here, what size Hoosier track tires should I consider for my C7 Z51 with these wheels?
The C6 Z06 rear wheel is 19x12. Thats two inches wider than my C7 Z51 rear wheel. Sounds like just asking for clearance problems.
If I was going to use 18" front/rear to get more tire selection, is there an OEM take off from another model that would be correct, or would that be custom? I don't know much about how to specify the correct offset, or make sure I am buying the right thing. The tire part is easier, just go to the tire manufacturer specification charts. Wheel offset I'm a bit lost.

Using 4 18x10.5 58 offset front and rear.
NT01 275 front and 305 rear works great and hope this set up from Excelsior Motorsports
No rubbing or other issues

Bringing this thread back to life, I saw recently that there are now Toyo R888R's available in the stock Z51 tire sizes.
Anyone have thoughts on using these?
OP: How did the RE-71R's do? Thanks

Thanks - how is their warm up / durability before getting slippery?

They warm up fairly quickly on track, to be honest- about a lap. They only got greasy when I started over-driving the car. That was at COTA, which is pretty hard on tires.
I should note I was running 315F and 335R, so there is a bit more tire to take the abuse.

The RE-71R's did extremely well. I did four HPDE days, any of which would have melted the original MPSS. The RE-71R stick like glue, and take the heat very well. Just don't try running them in the rain!

Time to think about track tires for next spring for my stock '16 Z51. I have a set of OEM wheels for track only. Will be driving to all events
I'm looking at the Toyo R888R in stock sizes.
Question is, will the 265 or 275 frt and 305 rear fit and without upsetting the PTM?
First HPDE event will be Watkins Glen in June.

You need to look at tire height more than width.

OK, using your math from another thread to compare tire heights:
OEM
245/35/19 = 25.75"
285/30/20 = 26.73"
Ratio R/F = 1.038
Option 1
265/30/19 = 25.25"
305/35/20 = 28.40"
Ratio R/F = 1.12
Option 2
275/35/19 = 26.58"
305/35/20 = 28.40"
Ratio R/F = 1.068
This would indicate that option 2 is the best choice for the Toyo R888R on stock Z51 rims for HPDE as it relates to PTM
As long as there are no rubbing issues on a stock Z51 lowered on stock bolts.
Hoping for additional info from anyone actually running the Toyos on a C7 Z51

265/30r19 or 245/35r19 front and 285/30r20 rear are your only good bets on r888r. hopefully you didn't buy the second set of z51 wheels as those are possibly the hardest wheels to get track tires on. other than the above sizes, re-71rs are your only other choices really.

I attached a wheel ratio calculator I just made. Just plug in for the wheel sizes you want and it will calculate the difference. (that doesn't mean it will physically fit).
I ran a 3% difference and it was fine. I wouldn't go much more than that though.
