Just picked up a 2018 Z51. It will see track time and I'm trying to decide on front splitter and side rockers. I don't care about the look, but do care about protecting the side panels from road debris and any potential performance benefits. I've looked high and low and can't find any studies or reports on speeds that aero bits really make a difference. I've already scraped the front a few times with nothing on it so it would just be a matter of time before I beat up a front splitter. The ACS kit in carbon flash runs over $1700 so I'm debating if the money would be better spent on track tires/wheels.
1. I ordered ACS front wheel splash guards to help protect the sides. Will side rockers provide noticeably more protection?
2. Does anyone know of any studies or reports that explain at what speeds a front splitter and side rockers make a noticeable difference?
Aero is not a cost effective way of improving lap times at this point. Your best bet is probably gm oem stage 3 stufff. The lg splitter looks pretty good too, but you know gm did their homework and balanced front and rear aero.
Tires are everything. Assuming you're not running cup tires, get there's and brakes first.
You have to spend a lot of cash to get good results from aero and not have the car look like trash. Good results is also dependent on the average speed of the tracks you frequent. Tires, pads and experience are a much better investment.
