I'm trying to check my alignment on a new GS and have specs supposed to be good for "street/occasional track" use.
I'm told in order to do Caster that a GM tool part # "CH47960-10" is needed.
Local shops don't seem to have it. The tool's cost is high for the number of vetttes they see. My local dealer service rep was vague about whether they had it.
I decided to let the dealer do it anyway (hoping they did have the tool) when doing the 500 mile oil change but the alignment rack was blocked for a day and a half with another vehicle and they never got to it. That's another story.
Question is : is this tool absolutely necessary to do a proper alignment? Is there a work around?
I was just looking on the GM site today for these 2 tools & it states the dealer can get tools thru GM loaner program shipped overnite & then returned. Not sure if these particular tools can be ordered or any GM dealer can do this. It may apply only to GM corvette eligible dealers (those that are authorized to sell Vettes), some are in too small a market. Might be worth checking at your dealer.
