My son has a 2016 C7 Z51 which has been in the shop 4 times for torque tube replacement as well as other things related to that. Before this last trip to the dealer the next repair would be a complete replacement of the engine and transmission. GM overnighted a prop shaft bolt that is to be torqued higher than previously with specific instructions to the dealer tech to not touch the car until directed by GM engineer. Wondering if anyone else has found the bolt to be the source of all the torque tube/flex plate problems. I have a 2017 GS and just waiting for problems to arise.
No, but I'll throw out one thing that might be important. When we see a torque tube replacement it seems like there's a small chance that car winds up with a thrust bearing failure in the engine some time later.
It's because the torque tube must be properly aligned, and if it's not, it "presses" on the crankshaft, perhaps at an angle, and it wipes out the thrust surface.
How you gently hint to your dealer "don't screw up the torque tube alignment" I don't know. Maybe an anecdotal story about a friend (me!) that told you a story about it?
Otherwise I'm not aware of a common thread of cause of the torque tube failures themselves, sorry.
Here are links to a couple of Chevy tech articles on torque tube replacement that Dave was referring to. There are several threads on torque tube issues. Apparently the issue has not been resolved.
