Default Painting calipers

Does anyone have experience with painting their calipers (Red)? How did it come out? I saw some videos online but wanted to her from real Vette owners. Pics?

buy G2 ,2 part epoxy brake caliper paint.

Clean really well. then clean again.

Then take the calipers to a professional and have them powder coat them. because DIY looks like crap on smooth calipers.

Ok, you can save yourself the buying the G2 kit. it's not very good.

Thats nice. Was that the aftermarket kit? How do u get the lettering on there or did it come like that?
Thanks for letting know that painting myself would look bad. So i will scratch that off the list.
I also just realized the red OEM comes with lettering so if i did it myself than i would not have the lettering.

OK so painting is out. Not an option.
How difficult is it to change out the calipers on the C7? Is there a video?

Wow they look great. How did you get the black lettering? looks like OEM.

How hard is it to remove the calipers? Is it just one bolt holding it to the piston?

I ordered the stickers from a company. I put them on before the clear coat.

I actually didnt take them off I masked them up. I only painted the front side of the calipers.

I brushed painted the Calipers on my other car and hated the brush marks. The spray is much better and has held up like crazy.

Letters came from tower decals

rrsperry is right. They need to be powder coated and you need to use the right paint. I did it on an old Acura TL and it didn't look too bad, but the powder coating would have helped the paint be more vibrant. The ones on my silver C7 are already black so they will stay that way.

Your calipers turned out great. Did you spray them using an aerosol can?
What brand paint did you use?

Calipers are pretty much the same as any other car. Remove the bolts and remove the hoses and they come off.

If your car will have track use, I'd recommend against painting calipers, since they don't seem to withstand the high temps as good as the original paint. Actually, one of the testimonials listed on Essex Racing's site shows the poor state of a set of ZL1 brakes that truly look horrible, and how their kit fared better. Somehow, they forgot to mention that they were painted aftermarket.

I've heard powder coating can weaken the metal? Thoughts?

If the caliper had been annealed (by the maufaturer) then the process of powder coating can lose the annealing which basically softens the metal somewhat. The powder coating process involves heating. I am not sure though if brake caliper material is annealed.

Per the internet, Powdercoat cures at 400F.

Calipers are easily exposed to temps above that.

Default Base Model Gray Caliper Paint/Powder Coat?

Anyone know the paint code or powder coat color of the base model gray caliper color? Going to install Z51 rotors and calipers but they don't come gray to match rear calipers wihc are the same on base and Z51.

It's been well documented that with a little time and attention to detail you can get a perfect smooth finish with a home painting kit, G2 being the kit of choice.
