FWIW: I have been a Porsche Club (PCA) member for years and they offer Lockton insurance through the club. This includes both HPDE insurance and off-track insurance. Take a look at their website. Worth checking out. You may have to be a member to get their deal, but if you have a P-car and a Corvette the PCA is a good club to join. The club does have a "test-drive" pre-membership program that may allow you to buy the insurance.
It's required by law that it must be clearly stated in the policy so I need to see an actual exclusion. I'll look again.
Unless Oregon requires them to cover it the State Farm policies have had an exclusion for any incident on a racing surface for close to 10 years now. That means there is no collision, liability or medical coverage.
Although I am a long time USAA member (50 years) they will not cover my Corvette at all since they know I do HPDEs. I made an inquiry about 6 years ago to see about switching from State Farm and was honest with USAA when I told them how I used the car. After I moved 4 years ago I thought about transferring all of my car coverage to them and when I called the first thing the agent asked was if I still drove the car on the track. He said they would cover my other two vehicles but not the C6Z.
Coverage is fair and includes actually racing on the track as well as driving in the pits.
On Track Coverage – Provides physical damage for the vehicle while it’s in the water box and until you hit the return road
Off Track Coverage – Covers physical damage of vehicle except while vehicle is racing. Includes coverage while vehicle is garaged, in transit, in the staging lanes, in the pits and as soon as it’s driven onto the return road
Street Legal Car Off Track Coverage – Covers Physical Damage of Vehicle except while vehicle is racing. Includes coverage while vehicle is in the staging lanes, the pits and as soon as it’s driven onto the return road.
Guys, I don't know what else to say. You say you checked a couple of years back, I got verbal & written confirmation I would be covered under my normal, personal policy while in their office 42 days ago. All I can say if you don't feel it's worth going to your office to check it in person, so be it. I'm going to the school this month with full confidence I'm covered.
I asked the head of my insurance agency, in person. It was no way, no chance, no option.
You purchase based on what you want. I purchased the on/off track coverage. The quote is going to heavily depend on how much racing you're doing, storing the vehicle, trailering the vehicle, etc. It's best to request a quote directly based on your personal circumstances.
I have used ontrackinsurance and have been happy with them. While I have never had to make a claim I have talked to some how have and the payout was fast.
