Default Lets talk drag radials for 800+ HP NON-Z06 cars..

Im looking at several options for radials and would like to know if you have run any of the below tires and had any issues rubbing and how well they performed. The car is a NON-Z06 and therefore does not have a widebody kit. These will be mounted on Race Star 18"x10.5" "dark star" wheels and car is at average height in the rear (now lowered crazy low). If I need to raise it some for the tires to clear, im ok with that too so long as I have confirmation they will clear.

My front runner so far:
Mickey Thompson ET Street R "3581"

Details:
Tire size: P325/35R18
Tire Compound: R2
Tire Overall Diameter: 27.0''
Tire Tread Width: 11.5''
Wheel Diameter: 18''
Approved Wheel Widths: 10-12''
Tire Weight: 25 lbs.

M&H Drag Radial "ROD-22"

Details:
Tire size: P325/40/R18
Tire Compound: R
Tire Overall Diameter: 28.0''
Tire Tread Width: 11.3"
Wheel Diameter: 18''
Approved Wheel Widths: 12.0
Tire Weight: unknown

Hoosier R7

Details:
Tire size: P315/30R18
Tire Compound: R
Tire Overall Diameter: 26.0''
Tire Tread Width: 11.0"
Wheel Diameter: 18''
Approved Wheel Widths: 11-12''
Tire Weight: 24 lbs.

Toyo Proxes R888R

Details:
Tire size: P315/30R18
Tire Compound: R
Tire Overall Diameter: 25.5''
Tire Tread Width: 12.1''
Wheel Diameter: 18''
Approved Wheel Widths: 10.5-11.5''
Tire Weight: 31 lbs.

For comparison purposes, I have the below tire on the car now, and in a 305/35R19, but here is the options in an 18" wheel size. Currently the 19" size only hooks on a prepped track. On the street, it tends to jump around a bit.

Nitto NT05R

Details:
Tire size: 315/40R18
Tire Compound: R
Tire Overall Diameter: 28"
Tire Tread Width: 12.1''
Wheel Diameter: 18''
Approved Wheel Widths: 10.5-12.5''
Tire Weight: 33 lbs.

Wish I could contribute to the thread. All I know is that I can punch it in 1st gear with the 18" NT05R on the street and not spin with 660whp.

At the track I would bog launching at 4400ish rpm at 18psi.

I think you've got it down with your first choice. Good luck

Here is my experience and thoughts. My car is an M7 '14 Z51, lowered on stock bolts and I am at 834whp. On 18x10.5 C5Z replicas.

My current drag racing set up:

285/40R18 Mickey Thompson ET Street S/S
These tires work great. I launch around 4000-4200. Doesn't rub or poke out the sides.
Diameter: 26.9" (Very close to stock and wont rub)
These get me 1.60-1.75 60's and I am far from a top notch drag strip driver. Went with these over the 305/35R18 size for the larger sidewall.

My current street set up:

305/35R19 Nitto NT05R
I can say with full confidence to not even consider this tire for the drag strip. They cannot handle 800+whp and I was spinning in every gear when I tried to use them at the strip once. They are decent at lower power, but not for 800+.

Thoughts on your Choices:

Mickey Thompson ET Street R "3581"
Looks like a solid tire, but wouldn't 325's rub the fender walls? I thought generally we can only run up to a 315 without rubbing. If this tire fits and doesn't rub, I'd probably try it out next year.

M&H Drag Radial "ROD-22"
Definitely won't fit on a lowered vehicle, not sure about a stock height car. I think clearance on a lowered Stingray is a 27.6" diameter.

Hoosier R7
No sidewall, probably wouldn't hook very well compared to these other tires.

Toyo Proxes R888R
Again, no sidewall, but would likely make a good 1/2 mile tire.

Just my thoughts.

We have almost identical setups it would seem.. I'm a base model with Z51 brake system and suspension and my wheels have very similar specs. Do you know what your offset is on those?

Thank you I hadn't considered these as I want a wider contact patch but if they hold for you with the same amount of power then that's great.

Agreed. Came to the same conclusion.

Well, I went on the "WillTheyFit" site and here are the comparisons. First on the left is the stock setup vs the Nitto NT05R's I currently have, and then on the right is the same NT05R vs the proposed Mickey Thompson ET Street R tire. It doesn't look like it is THAT much wider overall. Tire height is great too.

I am running the ET Street SS 305/35/18 on the Race Star wheels. They fit like a glove. They don't stick out at all with no rubbing. I'm also at 800 rwhp. They stick great. I wouldn't run them all the time but they are great for the occasional dig. I run 315/30/20 NT01's for my street tire. They work pretty good for the street and high speed runs.

I think your picture was a bit incorrect haha, threw me off trying to figure it out. But it looks as though they should fit. Might get close to that fender lip on a lowered car, but it should fit. This is one tire I never really got to check out in detail because on Mickey Thompsons website (in canada at least), all this tires info is unavailable like it was just coming out. They had the size and that was about it.

I'll probably buy them for next year, and if you were to buy them and try them out, I'd be very interested in hearing about your experience with them. Would be a really solid tire if it fits.

Anything with 28 dia will rub, your best choice is the mickey R they fit perfect and doesn't rub and gives u the best performance but they are lil heavier than 25 they exactly weight 32 pounds, your second choice is the hoosier, but that will loss you some top end speed, i personal went through the mickey S/S (315/40/18) and m/h 325/40/18 and they both rub and doesn't give the traction u looking for if u making more tha 800whp and 700tq

Good luck with ur choice

Have you tried the Mickey R? And are you stock height or lowered on stock bolts? If they fit on a lowered car I will 100% be getting a pair next.

I just bought the R 325/35/18, didn't put them yet on the wheels but they should fit fine since the m/h used to fit and just rub the fender from out side with stock high,

On C5Z wheels im sure they will be fine. I just looked up the offset and it is +58 on those. On the Forge Star's I was planning on they are +76 offset. So basically your's will stick out the side more but shouldn't have any fitment issues.

I do more half mile than quarter and run the ET Street SS in a 305/40/18. Sounds like this is much taller than you're looking to go though. It hooks well street and strip. Running them on Forgeline 18x11. I have R888's mounted on Forgeline 20x11 as well as they do decent on the street but spun on the track. Since getting the 18's with MT I just leave them on all the time now.

I like the ET Street SS, but really would like to move to a 325 if possible..

I am using R888's on 18in Repros. I have just over 700WHP. When warm they spin slightly in 2nd. They're solid tires. 335/30/18

I got Mickeys, 305/35/18s. Don't stick out at all, mounted on spare set of wheels and it's 1" wider than stock tires. I bet 325 would be near lip but still ok. Had a TON of weights on them, like 8oz on one and 6oz on the other. Discount tire. Refused it. They broke them down, spun them several times and finally got the weight down to about 2 or 3 oz per tire. Road force balanced which Mickey said not to do but tire shop already had done it. Mickey rep said to bubble balance them which is nearly impossible to find now. I feel a slight vibration above 70 on highway. Ran them with run flats up front and no issues. Hooked great (1.60s) at track with a mild burn out. Run it at the track with 12 to 16lbs per Mickey website. I used 16lbs. Those who are saying they can't hook on drag radials at the track are probably using way too much air pressure. No high speed runs yet due to gas shortages the media said doesn't exist. For now premium gas in Texas is like Bigfoot, you hear about it, but can't locate it. Not 800hp...

I found an unused pair of ET Streets in 315/30/18 at a great price i dont want to pass up. I would be putting them on 18x 10.5 repros.

Do you guys think i would have any problems with rubbing?

Also what are your thoughts on going wider and losing sidewall compared to the 305/35/18 that seems to be the norm on narrow body cars.
Should i hold out and get the 305/35/18, or is the difference marginal and i would have comparable performance from the 315/30/18?

I can get these two tires for the price of less than one new.

thanks,-D
