Increasing reliability of C7 Z51 for HPDE

Burning Brakes
For longevity you should consider upgrading your 2015 with the Chevy performance secondary radiator Kit that became stock on all C7's starting with MY 2017. Part #84309470
That addition to my '16 Z51 along with the new OW40 oil reduced max water temps at Watkins Glen from 250 to 207 and max oil from 286 (with M1 15W50) to 259. I also have the Z06 grill which delivers 17% more air.. (be sure to remove the frt license plate along with the usual track prep.
So far this summer water and oil temps have been less than 200* in normal driving. Impressive!

I understand that there are several hacks available to get around the problem, but I still have a couple of years left on my warranty that I don't want to void it. I just wish that Chevy could (and should) come up with a permanent fix for a problem that proper testing would have identified to begin with. My local Chevy service has been very responsive in fixing the problem multiple times, but Chevy Customer Service has been very disappointing to say the least.

Wonder if my Corsa X-pipe reduced heat at all. Car had a good bit of hard use on hot days and never any issues.

Heavier weight oil has no effect on temps. All it does is not get as thin when oil temps are high.

[QUOTE=BrunoTheMellow;1599651023]43 degrees decrease in water temp is bullshit. Ambient temp must have been much lower. GM only quotes 25 degrees and they would quote the highest improvement they could.
I would have to agree. To be clear, I checked the temps for the Glen on June 20 2017 which was the last time i was able to run full sessions and it was reported to be 75*. On June 12 2019 , DIC was showing 72* . Also improved my best lap by 2 sec.over 2017.
I can't explain it. Actually, I now recall having a shop flush the coolant while doing some other work on the car. I later found they filled 50/50 mixture which i flushed and refilled at the correct 20/80 mixture when i installed the secondary rad. That's all I can come up with.
Finally, we haven't had much heat and humidity here so far this summer. But today I went out and ran a few errands in town.
2 or 3 stops, about an hour. 93* and running the AC. Max water temp was 195* max oil was 190* Money well spent IMO

How are you getting water temps below where the thermostat even opens (stock is 207 degrees). Did you adjust your fan programming or get a 180 thermostat?

[QUOTE=BrunoTheMellow;1599652780]Because it's the exact same engine in these cars. GM went to the trouble of changing the thermostat and adjusting the fan curve for what reason? 207 is high to me. Maybe even the highest thermostat I have ever had in a car.
