Just got my first Corvette a few days ago. Arctic White with red interior, 2LT package. I'm in love...
sorry about the probably idiotic newbie question, but I'm not finding the info I need
1) came with summer tires. I live in OK but it does get cold. I already swapped them out for all weather Michelins
2) new all weather Michelins are quieter and seem more sure footed
3) kept the summer tires. should I put them back on in the heat of the summer? how will they perform compared to the all-weather? grip, noise, etc??
what's the prevailing wisdom here - and many thanks - KS
Summer tires will out perform all season tires at temps greater than 50 degrees or so and especially above 80 degrees. If you got the tires , I would put them back on in April
An even better idea is buy another set of wheels, and mount the tires on them. Way easier, just swap them over. As another bonus, you’ll get double the life out of your tires.
I kept the stock tires on the stock rims, and bought winter tires and wheels.
...and takes perhaps 20 minutes or so to heat them in normal around town driving in the summer... also, enjoy your Vette, which it seems you certainly are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way I'm letting a garage jockey mess with the wheels and tires twice a year... (swapping tires on stock rims, back and forth...) Eh no... Besides unless you have a tire machine and balancer, you are going to pay a fortune every time you do it. Say $50 per wheel. Twice a year, that's $400 a year... Just buy another set of wheels.
I did the swapping tires for summer thing on my Mustang GT. I found that I actually preferred the all season tires better, so ended up selling those. Even though you will have better grip during warmer temps., you'd have to be pushing the car pretty hard to even notice the difference in handling. Also, if you get a lot of rain storms during the summer months, the all seasons are much less prone to hydroplaning than the summer tires.
Better hydroplaning resistance, smoother / quieter ride with the AS tires and no hassle changing wheels back and forth. The AS's year round was the best bet for me. Also never track my car.
