Today I started my oil and fluid changes on my 2017 Z06. I thought I had a handle on the rear end...but now I am totally confused.
First, I have to assume I have the ELimited slip dif that comes with the Z06 package. The manual specifies gear oil for the dif...but then states Dexron VI for the ELimited slip. The oil that came out of the dif is straight gear oil...no red tinted Dexron.
So my question is, are the differential oil and electronic slip oil separate? I was expecting red fluid, not brown.
Yes, they are separate. To change the Dexron ATF used in the ediff section, that needs some special pump and clutch valve activation procedure with a laptop, to purge the ediff from any air pockets after you drain and refill it. I don't think anybody has done this themselves, probably a dealer-only thing, or if you buy the MDI computer interface and software. The more important fluid to change is the gear-oil, that you have drained. Use the specified GM gear oil.
The gear oil lubricates the differential gears, and the ATF is used to actuate the locking clutches.
Thanks a million. I kinda figured that was the case, but the owner’s manual could be written better. Still waiting for the service manuals to be offered on Helmsinc.
