Muffler fastener thread type

Does anyone know what the thread type is for the two screws that bolt the two mufflers together?
I have tried M8x1.25 and M8x1.0 as well as 5/16-18 and 5/16-24.
The M8x1.25 seemed the closest but after a few turns it got hard to turn.

Anyone know for sure?

Well I have a base exhaust sitting in the garage and the bolts are M8X1.25. I ran one through a die just to be sure. Is it the same as the NPP? Don't know.

ok thanks, i was leaning toward thats what it should be, i will try with a little more effort in putting the screw in and hope for the best.
