Select/Arrows not working on steering wheel..wiring schematic help
I'm looking for the schematics for the steering wheel controls please. I have a 2016 2LT M/T and the select and arrow buttons are not working on the steering wheel. (no warranty so not taking to dealer). I see there is a control module at the column so that may be my problem. But I would like to see what else this communicates with before hitting the dash cluster. I guessing it hits the LAN bus to the BCM then the gauge cluster? I would like to know which connector on the BCM so I can check the pin. I've ohm'd out the steering clock spring and everything ohms across it. Thanks for the help.
Both steering controls route through the clockspring assembly in the steering wheel. The right side controls go directly to the instrument cluster. The left side controls go to the BCM.
But they're all powered from a fuse in the trunk. Looks like it's a 2A, labeled F11. That's from a 2014, but the 2016 should be similar. Check the fuse panel diagram in your owners manual.
An easy test would be to see if the radio mutes when you push the phone button, and if the buttons light up when you turn your headlights on.
Each button does not have a corresponding 'wire' to service it and take its signal to the car's systems, but instead, many are plexed through just a few wires that run down the column.
Do your "Voice Command" and "Hang up phone" buttons work on the steering wheel? Those share the same base signal wires as the directional/arrow controls on the right steering wheel spoke, so if the Voice/HangUp buttons are working but the arrows are not -- then I would guess it's not the wiring beyond the steering wheel, but perhaps the buttons in the steering wheel itself.
If none of the above are working, then we can run that particular wire pair down further.

Got them working! It was as you said Jeff, the fuse. How dumb can I be? At least I leaned something..check the fuse first next time. Thanks for the help I really appreciate it. I'm sure I'll be harassing you again for more help soon.

Hi,I also am having problems receiving phone calls. It takes forever for my phone to hook up an I was wondering where the fuses are located in the trunk.I couldn't find them as I was going to try and improve the answering of my incoming calls.I sometimes will receive the calls if I keep pushing on the buttons but it takes a real time to connect if it connects. Its a toss up whether it will connect or not.I am sorry to butt in on your thread but it read like may be I would be on the right track by following your suggestions.Rod

That's not going to be a fuse problem. If a fuse was blown, it just wouldn't work at all. It sounds like it could be a problem with your phone, and that's extremely difficult to troubleshoot on an internet forum.

Thank you for the guidance.I now have a starting point to try to correct my problem.Rod
Just FYI there's a HMI module of some kind in the steering wheel that translates various button pushes into packets on the CAN bus, but that's a single (or double) wire pair that basically carries the network signal reporting the button press. There isn't a wire per button or anything like that.
