Default LMR 160 Thermostat

Can not believe the 3rd LMR 160 thermostat has failed after a year or so.
Same reactions as previous, temp gage stops , no rev match etc.
Put original stat in and all OK.
I am done with LMR.

Wow, that's bad. Think it's just too cold of a temp? A 170 and/or 180 option seems like it would make a lot more sense for a street car.

Is the stat failing or is it a coding/compatibility issue. Large difference.

Don't know what you mean by a coding compatibility issue.
Ran fine over a year then BAM.

I run the LMR and have no issues. What is failing on yours? Gasket? Bulb? ...?

LMR is also getting full of themselves, just like Hennessy.$500.00 for a canned tune is absolutely stupid. Starting to forget where they came from.

My LMR T-stat failed me too after a couple months. They wouldn't honor any kind of warranty or show me any sympathy or offer a replacement. I have a stock T-Stat back in the LMR billet housing. Not spending money on an LMR again.

No gasket failures
1st stuck open
2nd stuck closed - Big hassle as water temp went to 240
3rd stuck open
They did give me replacements free for 1st two.
Don't want another.

Guess I can scratch that one off the bucket list. These t-stats aren't that complicated and to have gone through 3 already?! Crazy.

I was assuming hardware. Was wondering if the ECU was fighting the lower temp somehow.

So the housing is fine. The aftermarket Tstat is the problem. Other tstat options for lower temps?

pretty sure the LMR is using a basic LS stat. Pretty much any aftermarket LS stat would work in that case..

So a non issue then, as any one of many could work in the aluminum housing. Or the normal one

ONLY in the LMR housing. Thats why it had to be custom made by LMR. There are NO OEM style stats that hold up other than the actual stock one.

What do you mean? I'm running an LS3 T-Stat just fine in my LMR housing. Or am I misunderstanding?

no worries, let me break it down. With the GEN V LT motors, GM redesigned the thermostat housing and stat. Currently, nobody has made a reliable aftermarket thermostat for the factory housing that will not fail. LMR made a billet housing that basically converts you LT motor to be compatible with older style stats. So, to run ANYTHING other than stock, with any chance of success, you need the LMR housing. I have been through 5 stats. Have tried them all. Lingenfelter (failed), Summit 170 (failed) Summit 160 (failed) Mishimoto 160 (failed) and now the LMR stat which has been holding great for me.

I have had one in my car from one of the first to get one from them. It has done me good & never a problem at all. Robert
